What a bunch of idiots. Millions of people playing hundreds of games have now lost all their fun. This was the worst decision ever in the history of computing. Hate Adobe for doing this

        Same as Firefox.
I always wanted to use: Chrome, Internet Explorer or Opera before shutting down Adobe Flash Player.

It was inevitable, but Flash did serve us for a long time.

                    > Yes, flash is great but a wonky implementation will make you hate it a lot!
                    this.

one of the great issues with flash for apple was that it ran poorly. for it to run so smooth on windows they simply hooked a bit deeper into window's calls to get more direct access to hardware. as a result you could play video full screen and there would be no issue. on osx though, apple didn't want flash using such low level calls. as a result they had to make do with either software rendering which ran like garbage. by the time apple finally allowed lower level access to graphics call on osx (long after jobs complained about flash in 2010), adobe stopped caring and never bothered to update flash to run better for osx

There is an MMOG I play whose implementation is so poor, my computer's CPU runs full throttle *constantly* and the commit charge (allocatable memory) gets filled after a mere 30 minutes of continuous game play.
I hope this move by Adobe to discontinue Flash will at least force them to move to a newer technology where they'll be compelled to write better code.

Adobe Flash is much better than HTML5, because you can't use Click to Play blocking for HTML5 media. All HTML5 media gets downloaded on all sites. So every HTML5 video loads on every page. And this problem is even more serious on mobile devices, because it wastes the bandwidth, data plan, processing power and battery life. Plus, websites easily can track you with HTML5 media. And you can't do anything against these problems.

Adobe Flash supports Click to Play blocking.

Firefox for Android is the only one browser on Android and the whole mobile platform, in which you can disable HTML5 media. To do this, open the about:config page and set the "media.webm.enabled" preference to "false". Firefox for Android supports Adobe Flash, so you can use it for videos.

I think people don't understand flash. It was an amazing technology. Not only was it extremely easy to create great content (thus so many short flash games and other media) but also it was the flagship for Vector graphics - the content would always be perfectly sharp regardless of resolution. 16k display? Flash games will be sharp. 100000% zoom? Still sharp as if it was native. Vector graphics is such an amazing thing and Flash was actually great, and so misunderstood. It is actually a very sad day for technology, replacing such hopeful technology with a super simple and limited one.

I always owned flagship mobiles from both worlds - Android and iOS - but I will never forget the situation back in 2010 when companies like Samsung (and its fans) making fun of Apple (and it's users) for denying to support Flash on their mobile devices (and at the same time on their computers) and look where Flash is heading now. Oh, the irony...

"Microsoft decided to pull the plug of Paint" they are not killing the paint. After people complain it will be still in w10 (available in store) :)

With flash was funny thing, because there where weird idea that it was not secured... well it was actually, but most of people didnt update it regular.
Also no one took in to the account that Flash was popular and widely used everywhere, that why it was always was targeted by hackers. You can compare it to Windows and Mac in those days: Windows always had more problems with security because it was used by everyone and mac was just toy for teens.
Now when Mac is more popular... guess what? it have the same problems with security like windows!
Or look at java. java is used EVERYWHERE, starting from simple sites ending in banks ATMs so no wonder that java after flash is always described as "exposed to hackers"

But in terms of Flash, it give us LOOOOOOTS of amazing stuff, starting from design ideas ending in videos and flash games. Back then it was slow because it need lots of power but today Flash as addon for site and platform for videos and games is really not that bad, even if its code is not really polished.
HTML5 somehow took it place, but it still lack some features and its not that fun to use as flash
