Vegetaholic, 31 Jul 2017Nice, but no one can beet Intel, Intel i7 CPU are just beastsOf course. Man. I7 is a beast. But you have to sell your car to buy it. While amd offers same processing at lower cost. And for an upgrade? Well cheaper on amd. Isn't it?

Man, U'r era already finished, it's different story now. AMD no longer associated with short life or heats. Will Microsoft and Sony believe to AMD if their consoles will died in a short time eventually, the answer is NO. I won't argue for the APU since it's integrated with GPU.

it will beat intel IGP's performance easily ..

First they will launch it for laptops during Q4 .. and in desktop early 2018 .. Those will be Pentium G4560 competitors..

The first CPU in history that require AIO watercooling to work without throttling at stock clock pull over 200W and at 4.6 almost 400W even custom loop won't help.

          Prime95:
          AMD R7 1700 (8/16): 67W
          INTEL i7 7700K (4/8): 71W
          INTEL i7 6900K (8/16): 80W
          INTEL i9 7900X (10/20): 267W
          INTEL i9 7900X @ 4.6 (10/20): 378W

Right now you can't buy Intel's CPU with just money alone, you need to be pretty stupid if you want to buy Intel's CPU right now.

The problem with AMD never was CPUs physically failing, but rather the shoddy cheap parts motherboard manufacturers and system builder often chose for AMD systems.

For a budget gamer, they could grab one of these and overclock on a b350 board, get towards locked i5 performance.
Then they can buy a new ryzen in 2020, same mobo, cooler etc.
Makes a lot of sense for someone buying dedicated graphics.

Ryzen is more efficient than intels current line-up, runs cooler as it is soldered versus low quality thermal interface material (tim, look at any skylake-x article).
AMD have never had serious longevity issues, my phenom ii from 2011 still works great.

Back in 2015 when I was building my PC, I chose i7 4790 and 750 Ti SC. Now I'm thinking of upgrading to 1060. It'll give me a good 3 years on gaming. I may end up waiting for 2060 or 1060 Ti but in the meantime I may end up adding more RAM and a SSD.

The point is I can forecast that the i7 4790 will be in the recommended category for the next 3 years and nothing will ever happen to it. I can't say the same about Ryzen 7 atm. How much longevity you can expect needs at least a year to determine...

TYPO DETECTED: Wraith Max is the name of the alternative AMD cooler. COMMENT: I think this pressure AMD is putting over Intel is very positive for the market and the end-consumer. Having a dual-core these days is not acceptable, not even on your phone! With all these background services that "are here to help you", like smart search among other, and web applications being more demanding and running constantly on the background; having a dual-core is not enough. Every time I see a Core i3 or those Core i5 or i7-xxxxU (Ultra-low voltage) with only two core - and the price tag may be over $1000 - I want to do something about it. Even the newer Apple MacBook Pro with only a dual-core are a joke, more joke it will be on a Windows machine. Forget dual-cores!

But you are right, if you fork out top of the line cpu.. you most likely will pair it with a dGPU if you are a serious gamer.

LoL on the contrary. When you spend as low as this on a desktop system you will not be bothered with a dedicated GPU, so yes the i3 still has the lead there.

But hat's off to AMD for other 5 and 7 series Ryzen products, that they made Intel wake up from the damned monopoly they were enjoying for over a decade.

If you're spending a lot, you will be spending on the GPU either way. Unfortunately for AMD the Ryzen 7 1700 is still on par with i7 4790. Sure the core count and caches are higher but Intel still has the performance game. I'm interested in Ryzen because we just might start getting better core support from games now which means the base i7 might be an octa-core in the near future.

AMD has also dropped the ball in terms of GPU. I hope they can bring out competent Vega chips, but as it stands nVidia is still the better choice all around the spectrum.
