If you look at sales figures you will see that in virtually every region the midrange phone is a very popular price range. Only a select group (say 15-20% of the market share) consists of high-end users. Phones like the midrange Nokias have not been popular for no reason - only a very small group of consumers wants to pay either a higher monthly subscription or a fixed price for the phone with a contract.

So yes, this is a smart move, midrange Androids *should* hit the market and become popular, because it will only push the specs of midrange phones towards the high end ones if there high demand for a smoothly running Android; and we know there is a high demand.

First of all vodafone has already a budget android phones like 845 (Huawei)and 945(ZTE)these phones are similar to 858 smart. To be precise 845 and 858 are almost the same the main diference is desigen and lack of optical trackpad on 858. The cpu is the same , amount of ram is probably better not 128mb but 256mb. Ofc. i would still buy zte blade which is better than all the above mentioned. It is only £ 99 and yet all of them have similar cost.

ahah this phone make the symbians very bad.

why should you pay for a nokia,300 euro, when you can have a good android with a udge database of free software for 99 euro.

look at the zte blade, it s a very good phone.and cost 80 euro in some countries like switzerland.

that's cool Vodafone....finally someone has had the brains to launch an budget Android for the vox populi. If I may make an observation I would say that you guys always do things last but you do it well, correctly & which is beneficial for the masses.
