I don't know why companies update their devices with old os.. and they call it update,.. if 7.1.1 is out why update it to 7.0 which has issues. none sense

AnonD-632062, 02 Aug 2017Important question is what new features does it bring (if any)? It's never about features.
It's about patching software vulnerabilities.

7.1.0? Not 7.1.1? Oh boy when it arrives other well known companies already got their phones on 8.0 yet still with that update Wizlag still lags.

Samsung has this bad habit of releasing 1 yr old os on its flagship phones n then giving 2 major updates aftr that 1 yr old preinstalled update ...
This way they are just gonna end up like nokia before microsoft bought it n screwed it even worse)
Its just gonna be so unjust to release note8 with say 7.1.2 at a time when 8.0 is on the brink of being released
N then the old android version cycle keeps going on

Anonymous, 02 Aug 2017Fast update with so much lag and issues. Lol. Did you bump your head? This company does not provide fast or quick Android updates with the exception of security fixes.

AnonD-632062, 02 Aug 2017Samsung won't consider 7.1 as a second big update, but you ... moreActually, it depends on the device. The SIII LTE, for example, got launched with 4.0. It got upgraded to 4.1, 4.1.1 (multi window update), 4.1.2, 4.3 and 4.4.2. Here, the only updates considered major are the desert changes.
And for, say, a tablet. The Tab 2 series, released with 4.0, got 4.1.2 and 4.2.2. Support was dropped here.

and sorry, kitkat was a minor update at best, even with different name. google would have given it v5.0 if it was major.

7.1 Nougat is indeed a minor update to 7.0 Nougat but 4.4 KitKat was a major huge update to 4.3 Jellybean, unlike what you stated.
You don't need to worry. All Samsung flagships since the original i9000 Galaxy S have got at least 2 major Android upgrades and the Galaxy S8 is guaranteed to get not just Android O but also Android P.

I was hoping and prefer they would pass on 7.1 altogether and would start working on 8.0.
why? first of all, 7.1 is a minor update that very few need it features.
But my main reason: when we will get Android O, it would probably will be the last OS upgrade for the S8, as Samsung will relate to it as a SECOND big OS upgrade for S8, (after 7.1) and a second upgrade is enough by Samsung even for a flagship, as they did countless times in the past... one example is Note 3 - was released with 4.3, small update to 4.4, and final update to the horrendous 5.0 (not just Samsung. almost all vendors does the same)
