I think you may be the naive one. Samsungs second quarter financials were really good partly because of the success of the S8, sales not shipments. The S8 also sold 15% more than the S7 in the previous year when in the same period the S7 outsold the iPhones 6s even in the US with sales well over you unfounded figure!

I have an S8 unlike you and it is a fantastic phone, expensive yes, twice as good as some phones at half the price, no, but if you want the best most up-to-date phone there are none that beat it.

It was the best selling phone in the quarter outselling the iPhone 7's. It also sold millions of its upper-mid range A series phones as well as last years flagship S7's.

That's a major setback for Apple and the iPhone that the iPhone is no longer top dog in it's own home country.

And yes, the tint did change, but let's face it. Even with KitKat, this device is extra low end for nowadays standards. So it's not unreasonable to upgrade from it. Same goes for the SII.

You know they don't have to compe... moreI don't know how much either of those two companies make in terms of profit from sales of high-end smartphones but you may be right Sony might be making more per unit sold but they should strive to sell more phones (which Samsung clearly does by leaps-and-bounds) if they want to be taken seriously like these top 5 selling companies. And most of Sony's mid-range and budget offerings either come with crappy MediaTurd processors or some really low-end SD SoC.

AnonD-647900, 04 Aug 2017Where's Sony lol Right on its own league.
You know they don't have to compete in market shares, as they still make more profits than Samsung with high end flagships (Samsung pulls ahead with mid rangers and budgets, where Sony's offerings are somewhat underwhelming in the past, but definitely has become a lot more competitive since the XA1).

Selling a Sony flagship smartphone with Samsung's marketing strategy would mean 10x Samsung's current sales as of now.

Guess who will use this first on smartphones?

Starts with letter 's' and ends with letter 'y' - that's right, it's Sony!

And everyone still believes that Sony isn't good at smartphones and that they aren't innovative.
