Whereas quality and colour accuracy can be discussed there is one reason why AMOLED are the only way forward for mobile devices - it is energy consumption. I prefer AMOLED screens anyway, but what matters most is that that are from 30% and up-to 60-70% more energy efficient. On touch screen devices where screen can consume most of overall energy this is huge saving. Even if some premium LCD panel can give 1 or 5% better colour accuracy (like IPS) it would not matter considering power consumption. I understand this might be important on professional displays connected to the grid, but not on battery powered devices.

Anonymous, 07 Aug 2017Punchy color is not true to real life, but don't know why s... moreBecause you can tune the display mode into "accuracy " or "Basic" mode, where the accuracy is excellent thanks to a wide color gamut. It's as simple as a switch in the settings of a phone. But obviously the phone comes out of the box on the punchy colors mode.

Earth is not flat, but does not suffer from colour degradation and burn in like OLED. Numpty.
Just go to the retailer and check out the S8 screen with the icons burned in. Yes Extreme conditions but still a problem.

most of people think AMOLED are crap because Samsung and some manufactures uses inferior pentile amoled with over saturated displays on their mid and low range phones while in reality RGB AMOLED are way better than cheap AMOLED display also AMOLED displays are way easy on batteries

I can't believe some people still believe that LCD is better than AMOLEDs. I mean, Displaymate has already proved that SAMOLEDs are the best display out there. SO if you're gonna ignore the facts and pull another "Earth is flat" with this one, then just go ahead. And before you say that Displaymate is biased, I'd like to see you come up with factual evidence that proves that LCD is better. Just your personal opinion doesn't mean jack.

And burn-ins happens when you keep your phone screen on 24/7 under sunlight. That's why phones in the showrooms might show burn ins. But in real life with modern AMOLED phones, you'd pretty much never face this issue. And AMOLEDs are NOT oversaturated. People choose that option to amp up the saturation. There an option in the display menu to choose to show natural colors.

On;y uneducated people thinks that LCDs are better than AMOLED.

I'd like to think an OLED made in 2017 will fare much, much better over 5 years than this little bugger from 2010 ever did, and that's a good thing.

I still prefer a good LCD over OLED although I'm using a Samsung phone. Even on a Galaxy S8 I see color fringing on sharp edges like text. I don't know if it is caused by the screen flickering but it really annoys me. Some of my friends using iPhones still hoped that Apple won't jump to OLED because of this. I think OLED is the future but this issue needs to be solved.

As long as the quality is good, there are no burn-ins, no over saturated colors and it doesn't brake at the first drop on the floor (cough cough edge displays cough), I don't care what technology is being used.

Anonymous, 07 Aug 2017As opposed to lcd light bleed, dead pixels, and dying backlight? Those are valid only for the low quality LCD screens like what LG phones have. A good quality LCD screen is better than any AMOLED.

As some9ne with an old n8 thats still ticking.. I'd say that burn in is not that much of a problem as it is made out to be..not saying that one is better off or worse than the other... But here are regular things i hear....

savage, 07 Aug 2017Alot of people choose amoled because they heard people say ... moreNo lcd is being used more because it's much older, known, and more widely produced. Cheaper and easier.
And not because people talk about oled being so good without looking into it. But because people still constantly spread the same lies trying to degrade it without looking into it.
The fact still stands that it objectively is far superior in most ways and only getting better

I've been using LCDs till this year, when I switched to AMOLED in a Samsung phone. Colors do really pop, and it looks great. But I'll always vote for "quality matters" anyways, since I know other technologies can come real close to AMOLED. I probably wouldn't be able to tell AMOLED from high quality LCD if I didn't use two devices side by side for a period of time. Or, more importantly, wouldn't care. A good screen is just that - a good screen. When you have a good screen, it stops being the most important point in a device. You then switch to other areas, like material of the device. And then to performance, and then to software side (which seems to be the weakest link for many, many manufacturers).

AMOLEDs have been developed a lot by Samsung since the first time they put AMOLED on a phone. Thinking that S7/8 will have same issues as S1/2 is stupidity. Come out of rocks, don't highlight a minor issue as a threatening one. As this poll showed, AMOLEDs are the most preferred. They came a long g way in quality
