The Note8 is more than 10 millimeters taller than the S8 Active, while the difference in thickness is only around 1.4 millimetres. Besides, some of the extra thickness of the S8 Active is due to it's reinforced body, so it doesn't have a real advantage there either.

Plus, check the A9 Pro (2016) is smaller in two dimensions (Length and Thickness)than the Note8, yet it packs a humongous 5000 mAh battery.

AnonD-632062, 07 Aug 2017Awesome. It still beats me they can fit a wonderful 4,000mA... moreMaybe the difference is/will be due to the pen occupying space on the Note 8, and the Note 8 will probably be thinner than the S8 Active. That's my guess.

Going back to older Samsung phone and you will find your finger trying to reached up on the back because you are so used to it already.

AnonD-637957, 07 Aug 2017Is Apple copying Samsung technology or is Samsung copying Apples?Seeing as Apple has been at least 3 years behind Samsung for the last few generations, what do you think?

All you need is to apply a Flat Tempered-Glass screen protector and you're done!

(seems like Samsung deliberately wanted the masses to have an expensively fragile phone)
(Active doesn't need an OtterBox or an external battery packs like the SGS8)
(although the fingerprint scanner location is still a bummer)

I have a S5 Active for 3 years or so already. Unbreakable. My 2 batteries still work fine and the phone still responds perfectly fine since I haven't updated anything with the KitKat version. I will miss the loss of the IR blaster that I use often and the removable battery. The latter expands the phone's longevity for sure, if you can take care of it. One other thing than most don't understand, I'm Canadian and I have unlocked this phone and it works perfectly on any carrier here, contract or not. Further more, I have "ghosted" all AT&T stuff in it and only use what I need. So this new one should go along the same way. You can buy this phone unlocked too if you wait and use it like if it wasn't an AT&T exclusivity. The only time you'll notice it is when you reboot the phone, as I hear the gingle on mine.

Note the lack of an AT&T logo. Non-AT&T customers may finally get an Active Galaxy.

I am an AT&T customer, and I'm glad they will lose the exclusivity with this phone. They easily tack on $100 more for their phones that I can get unlocked (after the initial release). Their incentives are a joke...

Before the iPhone. Why is Apple so slow?

Key take away points include: (1) that this model will not be anywhere near as fragile as as the S8, and (2) that AT&T only has exclusivity for a limited time.
