The link is no longer valid.

The main problem with Moto Z Camera Lens mod is the fact it doesn't offer anything better than the phone camera itself. I believe Sony tried to do better by making a camera lens + sensor package that could be attached to a phone, and you would then use the phone as a screen for the camera. I'm not sure that idea went well either.

I used to think the mods were not useful but now moto mods make sense for me. Like a Nintendo Switch but with phone calls and everything.

AnonD-80459, 10 Aug 2017It has an external 1035 mah battery with a headphone jack a... moreExactly. If you're gaming on a very specific device. I tried a number of games on my phone (and my last phone), and ended up making the following conclusions:
            1. I only play action games on PC (racing games, shooters, rpgs ect). Controls-wise it is much more convenient and playing on a big screen makes a huge difference.
            2. Tower defense games are fine on small screen (mostly), although I'd like to play on a tablet (bigger screen - you see more and it is easier to play). For these games, however, you won't need a controller at all.
            3. Match 3 (candy crush, fishdom ect) and puzzle games (solitare, mahjong, sudoku, word games etc) are fine on mobile phone, but they're easily controlled using the screen, having a mouse, for example, would only get in the way.

I tried to play a shooter on mobile phone with a controller, I managed to control a portion of the game using mouse or controller, but neither worked perfectly (I could aim with a mouse but left click did absolutely nothing, I had to click on the screen, and I find it hard to aim with a gamepad).

Asphalt Xtreme (the only racing game that got me playing for a while) was a lot of fun on a mobile phone with a controller - full physical controls felt much more precise and responsive than tilting the device. But skipped frames and overall poor performance made me try it on PC. Stopped playing on mobile phone since there was no progress syncing. PC version was much better, performance-wise.

I also tried fighting games, but again, PC wins. Much better performance and greater selection of games, big screen, good controller support. It is playable on mobile, but much better on a PC. And even better on console, but I don't have one.

            As an overall conclusion:
If you play games on mobile phone that benefit from controller and happen to own supported Motorola device and want to game on-the-go, and don't have a dedicated portable gaming console, this Gamepad Moto Mod may be the right thing for you! Personally I don't play any serious games on the go (puzzles, mostly). If I were after more serious games, I'd pick up a dedicated gaming console (I don't want my phone dying on me in the middle of the day).

I don't like moto mods in general - putting your device into another device makes only one working device, while buying two separate, dedicated devices gives you two devices at all times. Like a speaker - using a bluetooth speaker gives you a speaker anyone can use, and you don't have to put your phone inside to make it work (you can use the phone while using the speaker). Having a moto mod with lenses is a cool idea, but dedicated mirrorless camera has a similar size, yet much better image quality at a similar price of phone + mod vs camera + lens (I recently purchased A6000 + cheap sigma 19mm prime, total price was similar to my S7 and pictures from camera are much more detailed). And, again, they're separate devices, you can make a call or listen to music while taking pictures yourself or letting someone else take the pictures. And they have separate batteries, so you'll stay online even after camera battery dies.

This is my personal opinion, your vision may be different.

Yuri84, 10 Aug 2017I respectfully disagree. First, the price is not really goo... moreIt has an external 1035 mah battery with a headphone jack and a usb c port. You might be able to get quality controllers for 30 dollars less but they don't have a built in battery and you have to go through the hasel to sync everything. Whatever you haters say, this mod is a good buy if you are into gaming on the phone.

Yuri84, 10 Aug 2017I respectfully disagree. First, the price is not really goo... moreHmmn.......You made a very good point. Wireless controller is much more versatile than this mod and considering that won't even eat device battery, makes it an obvious better buy. Thank you for your insight!

Sonu4678, 10 Aug 2017This is only MotoMod that is good and not that expensive. S... moreI love mods and it seems you do too but the problem with mods is that not many people use them so we are just 0.01% of the crowd and for Lenovo-moto they standardized the modular setup so there are lots of phones using them unlike lg.One more thing is that Moto isn't competing with apple and is priced much cheaper unlike lg due to which it has to cut costs somewhere.

Sonu4678, 10 Aug 2017This is only MotoMod that is good and not that expensive. S... moreI respectfully disagree. First, the price is not really good. Official wireless console controllers cost $60 and they're quite comfortable, but there are cheaper alternatives. In my opinion, they're much easier to use than this sort of controller. And if you connect the phone to a TV, you can use it like a console. This $80 device only has a couple of buttons and pads, but no external battery, for example, meaning game time will be rather bad.

For $80 you can buy a used PSP, for around $200 you can get a new PS Vita. Both have much better games and are dedicated gaming devices with physical controls and independent battery. And, as far as I know, they have a similar size to this mod. So why carry around a mod when you can have a dedicated console in a pocket?

The concept is good and very interesting, but I like to use and feel the controller, I note that Samsung expensive Bluetooth was actually quite poor and definitely not designed by a gamer, but it could be decent

If it's a good a hori controller (who have been making controller for 30 years since Famicom (Japanese nes) era, then it could a gamers dream

7ThRonin, 10 Aug 2017Great idea. I am using external gamepad (iPega) and gaming ... moreIpega is a budget controller, not so good build quality, d pad really stiff and not so precise, however they are inexpensive to buy.

I use ps3 and ps4 dual shock controller with a game klip on my phone (plug in and play) and the tactile feedback and responsiveness is second to none.

Some accounts claimed that even though the G5 could be moded out with the camera, speaker, ect., that not every territory's version could handle them. I though you were referencing a LG video game joy pad accessory mod I missed.
Lenovo... on the other hand... has only committed to three years of modular adaptation. I am willing to bet they aren't likely to go beyond that time frame(unless commercial success ensues).

But if you consider the chipset and gpu and beautiful screens of android flagships it would be pretty fun to game on these, things like nova or zombi shooter would be fun
