OnePlus is a company that wants to be killed due their incompetence.... Just like LG or Leeco.

Any popular phone has support for 5 years, and it does include all the latest security pathces, encryption methods, and SElinux enforcement, and Google play protect. Not to mention they add an extra layer in terms of privacy guard feeding apps fake data. If you root your phone you're on your own, everyone knows that. But if you don't it isn't any less secure.

Except they do, they have blatantly known security holes that can be exploited by anyone who wants to. Just because it doesn't pop-up a notification saying "You've been hacked!" it doesn't mean (at some point) someone hasn't taken advantage of your unawareness for core OS flaws.

Corporations know first hand just how real the threat is.

The 3T is not even a one year old phone and it's already destined for obsolescence. If they do security updates for Android O, but don't upgrade to the next version, then it will be an insecure and out of date phone after two years.

I guess that's what "Never Settle" means.

Why does everyone keep focussing on those bloody "security updates"? It's not that older phones without these "updates" have any problems. And the new features in newer Android versions have usually been included by manufacturer's variants anyway.

It's only the moronic posters on these sites whom complain about update this and that. While the silent majority keep using their phone until it effectively breaks down irrespective of its Android version. I know enough people with Xperia Z1 or Galaxy S4 (to name a few) and they don't have any problems at all. As long as they can run the apps they want usually stuff like Whatsapp/Facebook messenger or that illustrious banking-app, they don't care. In fact the strong point of Android is not to have the latest and greatest OS version to run App-this and app-that. While on IOS older app-versions are quickly replaced with newer versions that demand a newer IOS version, that way Apple deliberately enforces customers to upgrade. Sure you get 4 years of upgrades but on Android you can still run the majority of new apps on e.g. Kitkat (4.4) or Lolipop (5.x).

Sure, I know the one person still using their iPhone 3G but he can not find ANY app anymore for his phone unlike people with e.g. a Galaxy S2. At the very least these Jellybean users can sideload older versions of many apps (whom mostly still work).

No rooting, or custom roms needed. Just a bit searching here and there, and activating "unkown sources" upon install.

"...nougat was already out for 2 months when the 3T came out..."
Again who cares? Those 5 people whom actually bought one? Of which 2 bought it because friends told them so but in reality have no clue what these newer Android versions actually offer?

IMHO all that propaganda to upgrade is very exaggerated. As long as APKS remain compatible with certain (old enough) versions I fail to see the problem. It's the apps that are important NOT the OS.

To everyone complaining, if you're too stupid or busy to flash don't buy a OnePlus phone. Even if you just leave it stock you'll have no issues (maybe a couple small quirks). I used a opo for 2.5 years on cynogenmod with no support and had no issues/crashes/major problems. All it takes is 30 seconds on a search engine and 99% of problems are solved.

Or you can pay for a no-name Android and save a hundred bucks up front but have to buy three phones at that price in that four year span to have security updates.

I'm leaving out the custom rom scene because they are mainly holier than thou types who think they are super hackers, but really can't even write code and have no understanding of the sub-components to the Linux stack. They mostly got to where they are by mindlessly running unaudited programs as root and copy/pasting commands as root without an understanding of what they were even doing. Basic functionality like full disk encryption

                                      There is a pattern......
The moment, OnePlus 5 released, OnePlus 2 support and feature released stopped.
Now, OnePlus 3/3T will last last major release ie. Android O. When next year OnePlus 6 will be released, OnePlus 5 will not get more that one major Anroid release.
