Samsung reportedly bought up almost all available Snapdragon 845 chips

21 August 2017
For use in the Galaxy S9, of course. But where does that leave other makers?

Anonymous, 31 Aug 2017Funny this is that Samsung's own SoC is better most often t... moreThey use Qualcomm because of CDMA patents that Qualcomm holds.
And they bought up the chips because it's the best logical business move for them. If they are in that short of supply rate than no matter which way someone suffers. This makes it covered for the phone that will be most in demand and most consistent release of initial batches. If there is no supply issues then this is just hype and they only bought up first dibs.

Funny this is that Samsung's own SoC is better most often than not ... so they clearly do it to suppress competion for a month or not ... does that smell illegal competition or what?

AnonD-647900, 23 Aug 2017Yeah I know Exynos scores better in CPU benchmarks and it's... moreAnd actually the kirin and media tek have shown to be great SoC's now.
And even bank in the day like composing sd s4. They showed mediateks top chip in comparison.
The sd s4 just had those big boosts but then throttled and plummeted while the mediateks just had consistent performance which ended up being on par and then above. And consumed less power.

AnonD-647900, 23 Aug 2017Yeah I know Exynos scores better in CPU benchmarks and it's... moreExynos in S1, s2, note 2, and s8 have better gpu. Note 4 and s6 gpu wasnt quite as fast but had much better longevity not throttling off nearly as fast and keeping up better performance.
So sd gpu is not always ahead.

And yeah Qualcomm usually releases more drives for aosp and stuff. But exynos can have still have good ones. Or you can get a good debloated TouchWiz rom with custom kernel that keeps all the features you want and works great.
Sadly us in the us now get the big f u with the sd variants being completely locked down.

Really the only difference that matters most to me is the audio quality. In performace both work well. And roms of course....which sadly is becoming a bigger cut off.

Sometimes with better gpu. Sometimes sd has better gpu. It hasnt been better gpu in every sd like people think. Which ones throttles less has also gone back and forth.
And for audio output? Absolutely no contest. 2012 Note2 still sounds better than the 2016 S7 sd version. Probably s8 sd version too.
