Forget 2016, this bast*rd Elop has killed Symbian now itself.
All online support has ended. Your set is as good as a brick, because they're slowing its speed too.

I'm planning ot get a Nokia N8 this summer. Nokia recently annouced that they're going to support symbian up to 2016 only....
what will happen after that?
will they switch symbian users to another OS using an update or anything else?

Forget Androids, forget Iphone, I mean Idont, forget BB's, forget all these so called advanced OS'S. They are a waste of money and effort, that guzzle up your money quicker than you can yank it out of your pocket. I've owned most of these phones and I finally returned to my Nokia E72. It's totally more reliable, apps are abundant, virus free, and will never ever let you down. Don't be fooled by all these airheads that haven't a clue about mobile phones. Symbian might be boring, but totally reliable. And NO!! Nokia won't abandon Symbian. There's billions of symbian handsets out there. MeeGo is crap, it will be shelved. Windows will kill Nokia's next generation mobiles. The only alternative is to develop Symbian to its' fullest potential. Trust me !! Cheers!!!

can't believe people i mean stupid people are braging about their dual core phones, why would you put a core i7 processor to a 3.11 WIN OS? symbian does not need dual core to run smoothly so why would nokia waste money on a processor their OS does not need. that is why nokia phones comes more affordable and still can deliver if not better but same results compared to android phones that costs an arm and a leg... i am enjoying same features with my nokia phone same as any android phone but it does not put a hole in my pocket...that is why i love nokia..they understand the needs and the budget of their customers!! you cannot get that to other manufacturers!!

Frankly, I find this hard to believe.
And even if it is true, maybe this means that the Anna/Belle updates to Sym^3 will come out in 2015! Nokia has its strengths, but delivering major updates in a *timely fashion* is not one of them!

Symbian has always been my favorite OS. I have used android, bada and symbian. Out of those I would definitely rely on symbian. I agree that Nokia phones like the N8 are way behind in the hardware(not to mention the software) department. Truly speaking, they are way behind only in the numbers..specifications.. Take any latest android, you'll find a dual core 1 GHz processor or may be a 1.2GHz. That might be impressive, but just take a look at the N8 and think where does it show that its 680Mhz is not enough. A 256 MB ram looks bad when you see it on paper in front of a 768 MB or even a 1GB one. Performance wise, multitasking has never been a problem with symbian. My WAVE 2 is so bad right now in the multitasking department that I cannot run more than 2 third party apps simultaneously. And android......it is a very resource intensive OS. For higher performance of an android device, you need higher hardware specs...not so with symbian. Too bad that symbian has taken a dive towards its end(which may be 2016) but I'd rather go for it over an android, just because of its so called user friendliness. Use symbian right and one can get "user friendliness" out of it too.

LoL I still using symbian and I like it, in fact I use Apple OS, Android and Symbian, every OS hast their own pros and cons. But my symbian phone is more quick and is less often to restart.
