MediaTek unleashes two new mid-range chipsets - the Helio P23 and the Helio P30

29 August 2017
The 16 nm chips come with octa-core CPU and support dual cameras and LTE Cat7/13 with Dual VoLTE.

Mediatek should move all P series chips to quad core graphics G72 MP4

Vegetaholic, 30 Aug 2017Nothing special, gpus are weak, another typical MT chipset ... moreThat's exactly their target. They know they can't compete in the high end segment, hence they're looking for air to breath in low end. Their "high end" X30 becomes mid ranger in a few moments after SD660 benchmark comes out since both score about the same overall.

Nothing special, gpus are weak, another typical MT chipset for low end users

            These are super cool.

There's another small but important difference between the P30 vs. P23/P25: P30 supports UFS2.1 flash storage (also, the only DRAM type it supports is LPDDR4X; they've dropped DDR3 support).

            https://www.mediatek.com/products/smartphones/mediatek-helio-p30

This is important because all the cutting-edge fast+low-power flash+dram chips are UFS2.1/LPDDR4X. Switching from eMMC to UFS is equivalent to the switch from parallel ATA (remember those crappy ribbon cables?) to SATA in desktop/laptop computers.

(personally I don't get why the mobile-specific flash industry bothered developing UFS & didn't just switch directly to NVMe; it's faster & requires fewer components).

Basically, the more options the better. So it's fine.

Н&#108, 29 Aug 2017Dualcore isnt and 8core is ? Wtf ! DC is best for android !dual core is best for android? not anymore. why i dont see any oem make dual core? at least quad core chipset available even on the very2 low end smartphone nowadays. there are thing called "Multitasking".

what do i do with my phone in my daily life. this usually occur at the same time:
                    1) downloading ROM using firefox
                    2) listening to music
                    3) background social apps running
                    4) playing online games
                    5) using Opera VPN
i dont see dual core will be efficient to do those tasks, especially on android.

It's ok if you have some A53, but you also need some A73 to drive the powerful tasks, A53 is just not enough for everything. If the SD615 wasn't purely made out of A53, it wouldn't overheat when loading updates or web pages.

A53, after years and years we still have A53. Give us at least 1 A75 for EACH processor available, it will speed up things massively
