I'm not dissing PRIV or Blackberry, i never owned a blackberry and i like them, and i would hope every OEM would push Android OS update for at least 2 years.
I just don't agree they drop new OS support after just one year, the priv costed 600-800 USD when it was launched. For that price a minimum 2 years OS support is mandatory

I find it amazing when modders on XDA build an OREO ROM with no support whatsoever and sometimes it's developed by 1 to 2 people.
Blackberry says it has to gather all it's peolpe for a single ROM. I bet they aren't more than 5 tbh. Ridiculous.
They just don't wanna waste time on a device they already launched.
Oneplus does that too. Oneplus 2 launched in july 2015 didn't recieved Nougat update neither.
Since i have my oneplus 5 (launched in june) i'm still with the oxygen 4.5.10 in july's update, We are in October FFS!!!
Many people are expressing their dissatisfaction on the forums and the community app.
Blackberry is no better. But Blackberry overprices their devices but drop every support just ot make profit.

People, just rethink what your next smartphone will be. I'd recommend Huawei, samsung, maybe even LG

      What a pity.

I have my Priv over a year now and it's been good for me with no problems. Would've love to see Nougat on it as the Priv is a extremely unique phone in today's market. The KeyOne is mediocre quality compared to its predecessor, and the slide out keyboard has so much attitude along side its 2.5D curved display. It doesn't make sense to me why BB didn't focus on a Priv 2 (yes, I know their sales were low on the first Priv) which they could've made it much slimmer, sleeker and faster.

I'll keep my Priv until it gives up on me, as I can feel in my gut that there won't be any other phone similar to it.

Anonymous, 11 Sep 2017Nah, just keep pressing the I Believe button whenever Black... moreFell free to live in your "Alternative facts" world, but please don't impose the nonsense on the rest of the world.

There are NO such thing as a secure smartphone with neither Android/Ios/Windows or any other OS to my knowledge. Sure some may be even worse than others, and sure some of the worst holes found are patched month by month.
And if you ask me if I think BB's patches make Android significantly more secure, then NO, at the best it might be marginally more safe.

I bought the Priv for the keyboard, not for BB's patched Android...

There MIGHT be some benefits of BB's android in a corporate environment, but that it is not anything that relates to me. I see a smartphone as insecure, and do not put trusted information on it...

...But I'm not so paranoid that I enter your "alternative facts" world where you seem to believe that BB on their homepage explicitly list the holes from Google monthly patches, and then releases their updates without these patches.

Blackberry has really let down their loyal fan base and hasn't even tried to make a real and full comeback, I was thinking of getting a bb but I'm having second thoughts about it.

BlackBerry updates are a joke. No disclosure on what they are doing with their monthly updates besides changing the date. At least with major updates on other manufacturers we are reasonably sure that say OpenSSL is patched for this month.

Well as I posted on CrackBerry, it is not exactly unexpected.
At the least they finally found the courage to tell it rather than letting us users hanging with a vague hope...

But really, how much will we be missing Nougat or Oreo? Sure even better Doze would be nice, but to be realistic the huge faults it was released with with Lollipop were ironed out on the Marshmallow release...

And split screen on a phablet? Is this REALLY that important? Sure I can academically imagine scenarios where it could be useful to use information in one app in another - say reply too an email with an SMS. But I'm not sure I would use it real life if I had it. Information from one app to another I would prefer to copy and paste rather if possible than split the screen and manually re-type it.
And If I can't cut&paste I'm likely to crop a screenshot, perhaps with their "Notable" app...
(But on a tablet Split could make a lot of sense to run two apps)
