Will be interesting to see what apple reveals later.

"The chip area will be reduced by 10%, meaning the manufacturing price of chips will fall"

but the phone prices will be rise.

I feel, Samsung should invest a lot more in Chip designing, SoC and DSP architecture. There is a bit of stagnancy or unimpressive growth in the smartphone industry due to lack of disruptive innovation in Chip and SoC designing. Like producing DSPs that help Smartphoen shoot 10 bit 4-2-2 video or even higher speeds. Maybe something that can handle the processor workload that something like the l16 Light Camera needs (right now, it is grossly under powered foe it's processing needs).
Also Samsung needs to work on the next generation of embedded flash storage, pushing it many times faster than is currently available.

Samsung is the largest chip maker in the world and the largest smartphone maker too. It must ensure it pushes itself way above and beyond the competition, if it wants to maintain that dominant position. While it is genuinely innovating in many ways, it can still do better.

AnonD-596087, 11 Sep 2017Gosh, u r in every article bashing a chipset that's not yet... moreYeah sure, just all the detail are available about chipset publicly for everyone, and it's as usual gpu sucks, so else you want me to say, praise wanna be "high end" chipset which can't compete with big dogs?

The 11nm is just an improved 14nm, they call it 11nm because tsmc call their improved 16nm, 12nm , it's so in their marketing slides consumers will think it's better even though actual performance will probably be similar.

Which one is actually better only the engineers know like how the tsmc 16nm iphone 6 chip beat the samsung 14nm iphone 6 chip in battery life.

Anonymous, 11 Sep 2017Nah, Huawei beat them to it with 10nm Kirin 970 Huaweii doesn't make their own chips.. You are taking about Huaweii designed chips, which then are made by fabs such as Samsung, which this article is about.

Even if it was about chip designs, Samsung designed AND manufactured their 10nm ones early this year, as well as manufactured the 10nm Snapdragon 835 chips..

Cool, but so far reducing manufacturing process does t help to catch up with beastly apple chipsets, I think it is time to think about some serious architecture redesigns for future chipset not just to shrink them, battery life is not improving significantly anyway

They are just marketing buzzwords. Yes, the 7nm chips are thinner than the 11nm ones, but nothing on them is necessarily 7nm wide.

For instance, this wiki article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7_nanometer) states the following:
The naming of process nodes by different major manufacturers (TSMC, Intel, Samsung, GlobalFoundries) is partially marketing driven and not directly related to any measurable distance on a chip - for example TSMC's 7nm node is similar in some key dimensions to Intel's 10nm node.
