So that's still good 200$ costly even if you consider basic customs duty @ 10% that still puts 100$ costlier than their US counterparts, Apple has historically priced iphones more in India, Just for an example Airtel/Vodafone locked iphone 4 in India costed as much as an unlocked iphone in US, so they have long history of pricing it more in different economies not just india. If anything apple slashed prices to less obnoxious levels after GST rollout, read news before blaming it on Taxes!!

Well, Qi Wireless charging is around since Nokia Lumias(2012) as far as i remember, that's way off to call that half baked, they argued that 3.5 inch is 'ergonomically' perfect screen size(Steve jobs went to the extent saying no one's gonna buy that big phone, Samsung Note 8 would have been laughing its Ar*e off if he was still around) but when consumer demand spoke for itself, 5.8 inch screens are okay too, I guess they perfected 4.7 inch displays before that nexus 4 and galaxy s3, note and note 2 were all half baked, 326 ppi resolutions is enough coz human eye cannot detect difference beyond that but that changed with Plus versions of their phones and all of a sudden apple made 1080p displays better, before that 1080p was half baked too i suppose, OLED is there since last 8-9 years, moreover they are buying it from the very company that made use of OLED screens widespread through it's S series, how was that half baked?? I could go on but i hope by now i hope you get the point....

I hate the way apple discriminate between USA and other countries and I hate I-Phone.
Reason Being For the cost of I phone X, i.e. 999 USD equivalent to 63000 approx. you could only buy Iphone cheapest version.

Last time it was an all time high in this sh8hole of a country was when 4 was released. 4s, 5, 5s, 6, 6s, SE, it was always low. It's like saying we're the fastest growing economy. That's because most countries already grew. Japan was nuked not once but twice and yet we're still borrowing trillions from them just to buy a train.

India and Brazil, have the most expensive iPhones in the world, the actual price of an Iphone 7 in Brasil, is R$3149,00 (U$1000), the new Apple TV 4K, is on Apple site at R$1249,00 (U$398) and the estimative for iPhone X are in R$6000/6500 (U$1910/2070).

US and Indian Price difference is also the same.. With every iteration of iPhone it is getting costlier. iPhone 7(32gb) was launched in India for around 60000₹. Wich is not so less than current iteration of iPhone 8(64gb). Note the storage difference. IPhone 7+(32gb) 70000INR vs 8+ (64gb) 73000INR. So it is almost same..
Stop blaming govt for such silly things. This is apple's trend to increase price. Tax might be little more. Not an issue for iPhone buyers. We will buy it.

Apple pricing is like that since back 7 years in India. iPhone 7 price India 60,000 against $649, now iPhone 8 price 64,000 against $699.

Some people are so naive, that no matter how much a manufacturer asks for it's flagship device, they will still pay it.. and in the back of their little minds they actually think they are doing the right thing, lying to themselves that they need that device and use it at it's full capacity.
P.S. And it's not envy, it's called the sad reality in which we live.
