More than half of all Android phones are on Lollipop or older with absolutely no security updates nor patches. Even my Moto X Pure/Style which have stock Android and is on Marshmallow still only have December 1, 2016 security update. Android phones represent the biggest security hole in the world, more than bootleg Windows XP machines.

The phones have worked with every number the android have had just fine and no user have ever needed a OS update. But the thing is that if people hear update then they want it. Sucks about it is that the update isn't global for every device.
Yes know how to install. People are dumb and easy to manipulate. If you root some other rom on your device then you lose guarantee for the device. If I buy a 100 euro phone I don't care about the guarantee cause it a cheap phone, but that does not mean it's a bad phone. Android 7 is still new OS and they dont need to pop up new number every year or new name every year. Would be nice if it goes 7.2 and thats it. Have a support for 3 years and then make a new android 8. Software should work in every hardware and not limit them on only new soft on new phones and old phones need to wait in line for ages or dont even get them. My Nexus 7 2013 have still good enough hardware to run droid 7 and i can get it when i root my tablet to some other OS. This will there for limit people access for apps that new will be supported on only new OS. People will still buy new phones even when they dont get updates but there are a lot of people who think straight and see that on droid 6 there phone work just fine to and they dont need to spend money on new phone just to get update that basically isnt much for your device anyways. 10 years ago the market for phones was totally different. There were not so many brands as there are now and then add in all these startups that get connections with some manufacturer from China that can build you what ever device you desire and then sell it to everyone.

Not so many since many people are already on Nougat 7.1. Oneplus 5 got record sales. Many Samsung flagships are right now on 7.1, the s7 past week got the update. Many huawei flagship devices are on nougat 7.1.
And still, only 1.6% are running nougat 7.1. i work at a contact center and i can tell you, from 80 people here we got at least 8-10 people already running nougat 7.1, and none of them got the pixel. Many huawei and a few samsung devices.
I bet 200k-400k pixel got sold.
The thing about Play store is pretty fake saying over 1m pixel launcher got downloaded. Since my old nexus 5 with a custom pixel rom i could download it from there and count as 1 more device...

Just buy a phone with a Qualcomm processor from a company that releases its source code. I have a Xiaomi Mi5 and had Oreo 6 days after the release (Paid $200 for it too, so you can't complain that it's only expensive Pixels with Oreo)and I know the Mi3, Mi4, Mi5s and Mi5s Plus had Oreo the day after release. There are plenty of phones that have Oreo releases if you know how to install it, Xda even has a list.
Oreo is pretty boring anyway, there's not much change from a user's perspective, so no need to feel left out.

Yeah....Android Marshmallow is still a king, I as a marshmallow android user feel this OS is so much safer with embedded security patch, no updates anymore considering i only have 1 gb ram and batteries under 3,000 mah, really no updates at all and no support os update, but i still happy with app updates of playstore, i only hope update patch and some other feature.

This actually shows the no. Of pixels in the wild. Negligible!!! BTW Nokia is sticking to it's promise. Monthly security updates and they upgraded Nokia 3 to 7.1.1 from 7.0. They had promised it by end of August and they were 2-3 days left. That makes me look forward to their flagship device as it appeared yesterday running 8.0 on geekbench and 7.1.1. Probably internal testing.

God I love these numbers. They show.how only 15% of people in the world that own an Android phone have a phone from 2015 or up.
Meaning 85% of users are either too poor or not dumb enough to buy a phone from the last two years.
And dumb we are indeed. I wish I never switched from my Note 4 to the S7...same crap...but twice as expensive.

guys dont compare to ios and dont make sad. bcoz there is no difference in android after jellyban all are good and great. so take it light for andriod version enjoy your andriod system.

No surprises here.
The biggest issue is the lack of Nexus devices.
There's very little options, yes that's right, almost no variety and choices on Android if you want to have a device with long-term support and support where updates are fast (eg/ continuous updates, monthly security within 2 months of release).
Such a shame that 2015 was a bad year for Android with the QSD 808 and QSD 810.
If we had the QSD 820 in 2015 like we should've, then the even the Nexus 5X would be a great phone today.
