1080 display is good enough and saving energy, even 2k display is still way better, 4K display is overkill because people won't watching 4K display too close, people won't see the difference and details with naked eye why making 4K display?

Oh! Apple follows 4K trends, 2K is just nothing!

Lol you're not representing your groups IQ very well I can tell you that. On top of that, Apple has announced that 4K content will cost the same as previous content, and any content that was purchased before hand, will also be upgraded to 4K for free.

Every media company should be like Apple and upgrading existing purchase. No more buy the 4K edition, buy the HDR edition, buy the 60fps edition.

ANd its true, you need a good internet connection, here in Romania we have 500Mbs or 1000Mbs

AnonD-147910, 15 Sep 2017How do you watch movies at home? Don't you have a TV in you... moreMost 4K HDR TVs today are too expensive than the already pricey smartphones that we use today.
And online streaming requires an excellent internet to be used flawlessly, otherwise it'll be terrible.
So there's no point, but Apple is asking for over a thousand dollars for a screen that's not even accordingly priced. And no, it's not overkill. Sony has proven that 4K HDR on smartphone won't hurt battery life as demonstrated by the XZ Premium's top notch battery life while still being in 4K all the time (most reviewers on YouTube reviewed it and said it was excellent).

And above 1080p has been overkill since then, but we're moving forward. Consumers won't even consider a 1080p screen on a flagship today, but somehow they act like mor*ns and refuse to have a 4K HDR screen, saying it's overkill when what they're basically asking is also overkill.

If you want to watch a movie what do you do? Download it illegally? Use Kodi which is also illegal? Buy a bluray which is almost obsolete? You stream it! Netflix, amazon video or apple TV. This is 2017.
Also come on now 4k on a 6 inch display is an overkill in all senses.

Annas, 15 Sep 2017A movie is meant to be seen on TV or cinemas. Ok for media ... moreSmartphones are portable TVs or cinemas. Yep, you'll not notice such difference between 2K and 4K, but neither can you with 1080p and 2K on a smartphone screen size, yet people made a huge fuss about the lack of a 2K screen as a huge deal breaker, but ironically refuse to have an even sharper 4K screen that will be way more future proof and take some other smartphone activities such as VR into another level - 4K's the minimum requirement for VR on smartphones.

Anonymous, 15 Sep 2017It's for the apple TV! so basically it is for 4K HDR TVs.The problem is that nobody carries an Apple TV everywhere - they all do smartphones, while tablets are already quite large, and laptops are the bulkiest things that they could do so.

Besides, move to 4K HDR is a far more useful thing than have thin bezels, right?
