So Google renamed Google Wallet to Android Pay because it cannot competes with Apple Pay and now it is abandoning Android Pay for Tez. Google just love renaming stuff and fragmentation.

Basically, more versatility more better. If, everything will be exactly as Google (etc) said.

AnonD-632062, 18 Sep 2017More fragmentation from Google (as expected). This is a country specific solution. This cannot be launched in other countries as it bypasses Visa / Master and uses India's payment infra

It's just okay. There are better UPI based apps like phonepe. But a welcome addition nonetheless

Downloaded and tried it out, set up was easy, after entering ph number its a breeze to add bank accounts as it auto retrieve info, fund transfer worked fine, also able to view account balance in a jiffy! Its unique feature to send money to another user nearby instantly is fabs,,,,thx Google!

So another front end to the government's UPI system? I doubt people will install it, when they are not installing the standalone BHIM in huge numbers.

UPI integration with Whatsapp maybe the gamechanger, though, with hundreds of millions of installations already in place.

Without ubiquity, it will be difficult to challenge PayTM, which, while not integrated into your bank account, still has the first-mover advantage.

On the question of "why not in other countries": this is a front end to the Indian Government's UPI payment settlement system and is therefore specific to Indian bank account holders

This should be extended to other countries as well. But then again can you trust Google to be consistent? They pulled Google Trader when everyone seems to be enjoying it.

Indians already have vast number of mobile based payments system . Like paytm they also enable saving account services is their app. Like mobikwik and BHIM have good services too. Tez have to deliver something different to appeal mass consumer .
