19 September 2017
Like the two generations of Chromebook Pixels before it, it will be anything but cheap.

Aspros, 20 Sep 2017I just don't understand why Google is insisting with those ... moreChrome Os is what they wanted android to be. Ie an OS completely determined and controlled by Google.

Android is more wild and only half-heartedly support it. If anything android could be the OS to get b this point, but they don't want that. They rather prefer Chrome OS ro become qhat android is.

See Android started when Google was still a relatively small company so they are now "stuck" with it. Obviously it was close to the best they could for a new OS (open source to give freedom, proprietary in parts to give it stability), but as I said above it is half out of their control.

There are two roads ahead for them. Chrome Os becomes king (basicall why they continuously push it on us) or they manage to close android (which is more probable). Whatever's the case, qe -as customers- lose in the long run. We got a sudden uptick with the smartphone/tablet era, we are now to get a longer "bearish" era were many things regress (phones are less portable than ever, android is more closed than ever, etc)...

Instead of launching this pixelbook, Google should launch the successor of Pixel C tablet with 4G connectivity and stylus

I think this is supposed to compete with Microsoft Surface Pro and iPad Pro. So I'm guessing a good backlit keyboard, a good stylus, a super sharp screen and long battery life. Im hoping it has great build quality that's also lightweight and better ports selection than the Surface Pro/iPad Pro. A fast SSD and maybe something like unlimited Google Drive storage would help make this device compete with the others

Chrome OS for that price? what are they smoking. You can easily get a Macbook or Surface laptops for that price which run full applications. Even gaming laptops with high end graphic cards are around that price. I dont see anybody buying this

The pricing is for which target audience? The boys at alphabet must be drunk...

Very unstable product portfolio! They keep different nomenclature for each time they release tablet products. No gauranteed support and software upgrades like ipad(each time they change manufacturers). Even in the Nexus lines (now Pixel line) they create lots of uncertainty in the minds of consumer about their future direction. Only things is assured software upgrade for nexus lines(now pixel line) but beyond that it just look too boring.

Loving the design and the pen, but Google, seriously - Chrome OS is... dead. Merge Android with Chrome OS and start creating devices with THAT new OS, then we will talk :-)

I just don't understand why Google is insisting with those cromebooks.i would pay that money if it has android is and could play any of the millions of android apps, but it doesn't! The merge was rumored from the beginning, but it never happened. You have very limited options with cromebooks, you can do less things that you can do with normal android tablets and you have to pay surface money, money enough offer stellar productivity. I just don't get it why they insist on that road...

I managed to buy a touch screen CB at a sale for $100. Not all Android apps are able to run on it at the moment. 99% of my use case is covered.

I feel $200 - $350 should be the prices, as the hardware to run Chrome OS is not that demanding. 4GB of RAM and a good touch screen are must.

I love my Acer CB. :)

And thats where the money is translated to value for some.(Of course you might not agree with this)

Thats why iPad was popular. Thats why Surface Pro is gaining traction as their corei5 series is starting to go fanless.

This product is trying to achieve this market niche. Long running battery life, cool / quiet operations, access to android environments, high refresh screen, a good browser.

And at that price you can get yourself a seriously beefy computer like an Alienware with a GTX 1070. For pro apps, they run better on a i7-7820HK than on a SD835. And these aren't the full apps on the Play Store. Photoshop and Lightroom are extra light lite versions on Android.

While it might not have desktop apps power like those found on Windows or Mac, it’s support for android apps makes it appealing for some.

adobe lightroom, microsoft office all the major pro apps are on android, ios and desktop os.
and keyboard and mouse optimised games on play store.

At that price point and lag free pen, it target to defeat is most likely the iPad Pro. While offering the mouse for spreadsheet users.

It's hilarious, really. Look at those huge bezels and that obsolete 16:9 display ratio...and that insane price for basically very limited functionality.

For a much lower price you can get a Microsoft Surface Pro 5 which is like a million times better, it's a real computer with a real OS, which you can use for anything you want.

I really don't understand how Google can ask these ripoff prices for mediocre phones, mediocre laptops, mediocre hardware in general. They want to immitate Apple in pricing, but they don't spend any R&D resources for hardware, they just use what's available.

Sorry Google, but things don't work this way...
