This tech is still new and too expensive. I'm wearing glasses, which is troublesome even with Google cardboard. I hope we get Ready Player One hardware and software before I die.

imparanoic, 27 Sep 2017i doubt there will be a lot of apps that support it, more i... moreThese have minimum specs required and people who have tested them are wowed at the resolution and quality. Of course the PC is doing most of the work. And these mixed reality headsets will support SteamVR games. It's really about trying to get more users into the market so that manufacturing costs go down enough to allow for the tech to get even better. This is also part of MS's lead to the consumer friendly hololens. But knowing them Apple will beat them to a better solution.
The real question is will Gamers adapt because I don't think regular consumers care for it. I also don't think VR really has any titles that makes it worth it. It's really games that sell the hardware. Nintendo has been selling hardware thanks to titles like Zelda for the longest time. The switch is a great example as Zelda was the prime driver for their sales.
I could see a game like Amnesia the Dark descent being nice on this but other than that meh.

Had the oculus cv1 since launcher, got the touch controllers, works perfectly.
These new ones are offering very little more than whats already available, perhaps price is the only sway over already existing devices.
Increased pixel count requires a lot more grunt, i'm running an EVGA 1080 already and can stress it enough by doubling the pixel count, 4K - 8K VR? You'd need something very special to power it.
Silly ideas which won't materialise with current hardware ? Pointless.

Seeing how MS 'tests' ideas, and how easy they abandon their loyal customers (see cases of several iterations of phone systems with no migration paths, MS Band dropped after 2 iterations) it would only be recommended for technology enthusiasts who can throw away their purchase after a year with no regrets.

Mixed reality and still using joysticks. Kind of underwhelming in this age. Where are gloves?

i doubt there will be a lot of apps that support it, more importantly, let's presume that this item cost around US$200 - 250, for a US$150 more, you can get real VR from playstation VR with decent killer apps/games which attract gamer to play, games like resident evil 7, air combat 8, gran trismo sport, summer vacation, Rez HD, Zone of Enders 2 VR, Doom VFR, these are games which people are willing to spend US$ 400 -500 VR accessories, yes, resolution is the highest, but at least, it won't be 5 minute wonder ( expensive wonder) like the apps for this Mixed VR/AR and most other VR systems, it's the games that sells these accessories, not the hardware
This is almost like 3do school of marketing, third party companies selling hardware which is risky, yet, the main creator has minimal risk

There should be a law passed, if broken punished by life without parole, that says: "It is unlawful to showcase a product presented in such a manner as to mislead consumers to believe the product will reach the marketplace within a short timeframe. If presented as a tangible product, appearing close to release to the general public, the product must be commercially available within 3 months."
