Desktop PCs have way longer lifespans than phones, most of them last 4-5 years before being considered depreciated, laptops around 2-3 years. Phones meanwhile last 1 year on average.
The only reason Apple retains value (but still depreciates after one year) is because of that Apple logo and media hype. Take away the Apple logo and it'll depreciate just as fast, if not faster as other brands.

But what about me, why would i get one? And others, why would they care what an MM laptop cost? Stop measuring other peoples purchases solely out from your own life, perceived personal needs and own preferences, youre actually making people embarassed on your behalf and you dont even se it.
And in addition, no electronics retains its value like an Apple product, the X will bring good money used 2 years down the road when your beloved PCs are barely worth their weight in scrap metals, if you can find a buyer at all. You cant use the same formula for the price of an used Apple product. Electronic devices are all disposable, with Apple being the exception that makes the rule true.

it is good that apple is trying something new. if they success, many oem will follow the road, as usual.
whatever the result is, im just buying $150 smartphone because it suits my need and i take picture using DSLR, but i like to see new tech. these few years smartphone tech is just the same. fingerprint-screen-camera-battery-wirelessAudio etc. oem are just improving it, no new tech.

This is just marketing done the rough way in order to keep people on their toes until they are charged with at least 1000$! (damn, you can get a good multimedia laptop or build a decent gaming PC for those money)

The only X I am curious about is the Galaxy X. The iPhone X is just cool enough for people to celebrate its 10th anniversary and has a cool name to spell out using the letter X but pronouncing it as the number ten. It's just a cool naming scheme because X (the letter) sounds mysterious and 10 makes it feel special.
We hear shortages all the time but 12M is still plenty. It's just marketing strategy that even Nintendo uses to keep the hype train up. By a year, Apple is expected to sell over 90M. That's near iPhone 6 territory and surpasses Galaxy S4. Everybody and their dog will own the same iPhone X. The X is better this season for scalpers.
No rush. We know Apple's strategy. The X will be in the market for a minimum of three years. You can go to Walmart or Best Buy to get a $200 iPhone 6 on prepaid. But who wants that when the SE is faster, cheaper by over $50, more RAM, and looks better? X will be around for a long, long time. I'd wait when the successor gets a RAM boost up to 4gb.
Early adopters wanting NEW DESIGN, NEW DESIGN, NEW DESIGN only to cover it up in a case are always used as guinea pigs to whatever bugs and -gates it has. 2018 and 2019 iPhone will look like the X but with way more refinements. Rock with the tock models.

Never go for the weaker twin. Looks fade. Performance lasts. There is still room for improvement with the X. People just falling for the hype because of the new design when it essentially has the same SoC and rear camera as the iPhone 8 Plus.

but of course everyday tell people that you dont have enough from your special product the more they will want it
on 3th of November news will be apple sold many millions, record breaking sales etc
and no one will remember this "supply shortages" we read every day
