Yes, the manufacturer may stop producing OEM batteries, so you may won't be able to buy original battery, but who cares? 3rd party manufacturers will still continue to make batteries for phones. That's why you still can buy new battery for very old phones like Nokia 7650, HTC HD2. The another advantage of removable battery is that 3rd party manufacturers can produce higher capacity extended batteryies, for example the ZeroLemon 10 000mAh extended battery for V20. You can't insert bigger battery into non-removable battery phones.
Even if the apocalypse happens, if your phone has removable battery, you can modify the phone to use standard 18650 li-ion batteries. Unlike phone batteries, the 18650 batteries are standard which means common, so you can find them in many local shops.

I have read countless reviews about phones and having sealed batteries is always listed as a disadvantage.
You talk about practicality, now let me ask you this:
When your battery wores out, which is more practical?
A. replace the entire phone

It feels ... more1 - It doesn't really feel like it's gonna break, the back is made of flexible plastic (not exactly the best material but it did the job) and it's not something that I have to do daily, weekly or even monthly.
2 - That's true, but the S5 is the first of its kind (waterproof). But if they can fit these amazing technologies on a handheld device don't you think it's possible for them to make a phone that is waterproof but has replaceable batteries. I believe they can but they don't want to because they get more money if the users replace their phones than just the batteries. They designed them that way.
3 - How sure are you that all these new phones will not have problems at all just because yours didn't? Even so, it doesn't change the fact that with a replaceable battery you are able to extend your phone's life once the old battery wears out.
4 - Lithium batteries age they last 2-3 years even if you are not using them. Beyond that they may still work but they will hold lesser and lesser charge until they become annoyance that you have to replace them. If the battery is sealed you may have to replace the entire phone. Not everyone wants to replace their phones every two or three years.
5 - Uh we are moving out of the topic here.
7 - No lithium batteries can't last a lifetime. Manufacturers are simply making higher capacity ones and/or phones that are more enerygy efficient but the batteries are the same (same chemicals).

So yes phones with removable batteries are better for many people
I don't have to have a bath with the phone or wash up or have the phone under a metre away and near water
If you don't take your phone into every room waterproofing it not required
Security can be improved with NON removable sim card so just like CDMA phone they have to be registered with the network so the sim card cannot just replaced
That security feature is LONG overdue on GSM phone

3. I can go from 0 to 100 % in less than a minute (qc 10.0 is awesome) with a spare battery without degrading it with fast charging

It feels as if you're about to break your phone when you do that, which is why I don't like removing the backs of my phone anymore, and I think pretty much everyone doesn't anymore either.
2 - S5 was a pure joke. IP67 call it is, even a simple splash of water onto the phone can make its internals wet, definitely waterproof lol. You seriously need some tight adhesive seals to achieve a true waterproof capability.
3 - Flagship phones today, and even some mid rangers and budget devices don't have such problems anymore to even require a repair. Unless you're careless of your device, any phone from this generation will deliver a superb quality experience.
I broke my phone's screen because of my carelessness, but not even once did I brought it to any electrician or service center for a problem that's exhibited by the phone itself.
4 - Batteries can hold their capacities for more than 2 years, which is pretty long enough for an average consumer's use. Usually, every people change phones within 2 to 3 years, and some even exceed that. Attaching a power brick to a phone forever is such an overstatement caused of illusion. It will take years before a battery will no longer take charges, and for high end devices, this isn't even a problem at all.
Besides, anyone can have Sony's Qnovo Adaptive Charging in order to prolong the lifespan of the batteries of our phones, and LG's also one of the first to adopt the same technological feature on their V30 with a non-removable battery.
5 - Because phones usually have password, and nobody's interested of wasting time guessing the PIN, Pattern, or Password of the phone, or even bother tracing the fingerprint of the owner of the phone, or even trying to get the picture of the owner of the phone or trying to look like the owner of the phone. I doubt a thief would also be interested at taking the iris of the owner of the phone as well.
With the SIM and SD Card are in the SIM and SD Card trays, respectively, a thief that's in a hurry will be out of luck trying to steal any information from any of the two cards, unless that thief has brought a SIM ejecting tool, but a SIM and SD Card that's installed at the back of the phone along with the removable & replaceable battery can easily get those cards immediately and run away, and voila! Your private information and data are now posted online.......
6 - Okay, nevermind that. It's just an annoyance, especially when you're trying to be quiet but your phone can't do the back cover installment quietly.
7 - I ain't missing anything for sure, as far as being a user of a phone with removable and non-removable batteries. Removing and replacing batteries are something that you'd do a decade ago, but not anymore today. The reason that batteries are sealed in is because they're made to last for life, and only defective ones will fail, but even then every OEM is now producing high quality batteries that won't be having any problem in real life.
They are all sealed in because in that way, we can have more durable devices than ever.
They're non-removable because almost no one already does that even when it's there.
And for high price tags that these devices are asking for, we shouldn't be expecting such issues to occur, and I'm glad to tell that we don't even with non-removable batteries.

My sister used to have a LG G4 and despite the fact that it's got a removable and replaceable battery, she didn't make use of it. The phone went into boot loop after a year and 2 months of use, yet the battery is still brilliantly working as heck, which beats the purpose of having a removable battery. They made a great decision making the G6 a non-removable battery phone as it now exhibits an IP68 certification, a first for an LG phone.
Besides, these flagship phones are so great now to even exhibit such problems like lags or needs of factory reset, or even sudden freezes, etc.
In the first place, every OEM should make a high quality device that will encounter no problems with normal usage of an average consumer.
I know a friend that uses an Xperia device with non-removable battery and not even once in the wild did I ever heard of him wished that his battery was removable.
My iPad Air 2 still works like a dream despite the severe screen retention, which I bought since January 2015.
What makes my statement valid is about how practical is it. It's time that manufacturers should go the non-removable battery route to give us far better quality products that will surely last for years and so on.
Basically, you're just trying to find an excuse for something that should have been gone already 2 years ago.
