This is wrong - ''...as iTunes can only restore a backup to a device running the same version of iOS as the backup''.
It should be ''the same or higher''.

iTunes used to be good, but now it is a big bloated mess. iTunes tries to become an all-in-one media player/app store but causes it to become bloated, messy and unstable.

no one said u cant restore. the issue raised in this article has always been the same. if u cant restore its bcuz the backup was on a higher version. easily fixed by clicking on update in iTunes or directly from iPhone.
iTunes isn't perfect but in recent times, iTunes has become less reliant but still has its advantages if a person owns a pc or laptop then its easier to backup there instead of the icloud.

And this 'magical' feature is available on android as well (maybe on wp also).
As for the updates, ios is also known to brick devices with official updates (even if not many), which isn't the case with android, and the features they bring are usually already present in android.

But you can still buy an iPhone SE, 6s, and 7 and those could come with an older version of iOS if you get one of the older stock. This means your new iPhone will have an older version of iOS than your current iPhone, until update the new iPhone. Even if it is still the iPhone 8, iOS 11.0 is still older then iOS 11.0.1, which is enough for the backup restore process to not work.

apple is just a tr@sh without steve jobs. osx becomes unstable, macbook pro with sh!tty useless led bar and stupid type c ports without any other ports, iphone x in-consistent user interface, stup!d bloated itunes, etc.
Now apple is totally a mess.

there are many sections in iTunes, theres iTunes backup, restore, update, music, apps, podcasts, reset and others.
I was referring to the iTunes 'Backup'
which is magical.

apple is quick with upgrades unlike android.
ios version 11.10 is shortly getting released and it will get rid of the remaining bugs and it will go back to being flawless experience.
usually a major update will bring a few bugs which are then fixed in a new update.no big deal its pretty much expected with every major update wether its ios, android or windows.

iTune back up even remembers how far down you have scrolled on a webpage and what draft text you have typed but haven't send. It makes swapping iPhones so much easier and faster.

i work in the IT department and just spent 3 hours trying to migrate from 6s to 7. Thanks arena, for confirming what i suspected. now only if the itunes would download the update faster than the speed of farts.....

Every article I see is about how much this new update sucks,
how battery life has degraded and why you shouldn't update to it.
And then you have iTunes refusing to restore to version 11 which is more stable, and requires 11.0.1 only(if the previous device runs it). That's how it is magical.
