HTC does an Apple, denies Sensation death grip issues exist

09 June, 2011
HTC has obviously taken a leaf off the Apple PR book and denied today that their Sensation flagship has the so-called "death grip" issues. There was no press-conference this time, but a company spokesman...

I sent my Sensation back after 24 hours thanks to the Network deathgrip issue.
I wanted to replace my HTC Desire (crap memory), which I always have a signal with in the house. The Sensation would ALWAYS lose network coverage if I held the phone cradled in my palm like normal.
The Sensation is a great mini-tablet, but as a phone it's just junk.
I don't think I'll be buying HTC again despite owning them for many years.

I have read through most of these comments regarding the death grip on the HTC Sensation and I want to comment. I have had maybe about 8 android phones and have not been ever so impressed as I am with the sensation, however, IT DOES HAVE A REAL PROBLEM. You do not have to grip it the way they do on the videos. I do exactly what I do on this phone as well as any other and I lose my signal all the time. My fingers just have to be in the right place to lose signal with wi-fi and tower. You remember about your finger placement when you lose internet, which is really annoying. I love this phone and am so torn. I have called HTC and they said it was only supposed to be a problem with the international version and they are not addressing any further. As I am reading, many many t-mobile USA folks are having the same issues. I do see some phones don't have the problem so since I am in California and I get 30 days, I am almost tempted to turn this one in and just keep exchanging until I get a good one. I saw that the mytouch slide 4G is coming but the screen is tiny and now that I have this phone among other big screen phones, I gotta have a nice size screen! I have tried all the fixes out there, gel case....double sided tape ti fill gap between battery and cover...nothin works and I am NOT about to try putting a piece of foil in my phone and have it hanging out!! For those who never heard, youtube has this fix...it works 100% but then you have a sliver of foil interrupting the good looks of this phone. uuuugggg

Wow this is really bad. I've believed that HTC was doing an amazing job on redefining the mobile handset world, but now I really wonder if this is correct. Being a phonaholic i've bought a new phone every month and was awaiting with hope I'd found the best solution, the sensation. All weekend I've tried to figure out the Wifi and 3g signal issues. But to no avail. This phone is really bad if you want to stay connected. Sat next to a samsung Nexus S with identical sim (vodafone) it shows consistently less signal strength and 3g availability. Constantly going to 2G. and GPRS. With a Nokia next to it, it gets even worse. The Nokia has almost double the signal strength and good 3g connection. At the same time the HTC sensation can hardly make a voice call.

I was not going to buy the HTC sensation after I read all the reviews about the grip of death... I finally decided to buy it from T-mobile and I have not experienced and grip of death problems with it no matter how I held the device.

this phone is great! but it has a design fault!! i have a Nokia on the Vodafone Network and works anywhere! I just bought this phone from Vodafone on saturday and realised the signal drops no matter which way you hold it. Av tried everything to change the settings from 3g to basic 2g but i still cant get any mobile data conmnection unless i am connected to wifi. Unless i go up in the attic on the roof of my house then it seems to pick up signal! My nokia N900 works everywhere around the home. wether its downstairs or upstairs!

do not buy this phone intil they fix it!!! dont let HTC fool you like Apple did!!

Well it's not helping to deny it. Issues seams to be real and really not as hard to face it as this video suggests. Other websites are reporting on it and it seems to happen just by holding the phone with two hands: http://www.stuff-review.com/2011-06/htc-sensation-death-grip-its-real-and-its-annoying/

AnonD-1906, 13 Jun 2011You telling me that tablet gonna replace pc in general lol.... moreOK... What you lack is vision, and the ability to see a future roadmap for a product or product segment. The iPad and other tablets are currently NOT able to replace a traditional PC. I never said they were. I said they can do what traditional PCs can do, but not EVERYTHING that they can do. You are looking at this from a very "now" perspective. As tablets get more powerful and more capable AND as users get more comfortable with what can be done on them you will see a gradual shift towards them. Technology has done this a number of times... one making the other obsolete (VHS to DVD, etc). So stop putting words in my mouth and assuming things. And PLEASE start thinking outside the box a little. As a student you are being close minded about this topic. Again - you need to look at the future roadmap for the tablet segment and where they will be in about 5 years... or 10 years. The portability and easy of use, not to mention fast on and off times are what are helping tablets like the iPad become more mainstream. And its spelled craZy... not craSy.

I have a few friends with an iPhone 4 (1 week ago Apple finnaly recognized Central Europe as a viable market --> Slovenia! Yay! A little bit too late IMHO :P).
For a joke I asked if they have the so called "antena gate", and none of them could reproduce it to me (at least not in such severe manner that you would lose more than 2 bars). They also said they didn't have a single dropped call (some friends have had an iPhone 4 since their release date).
I also tried this "antena gate" on my Galaxy S and I did not lose more than 2 bars. And YES, I posted this when GSMArena reported on this issue with the iPhone 4. Another Slovenian blog also reproduced the "antena gate" on 2 of their Nokia (Symbian) phones. But said they didn't have a single dropped call with those phones before doing the tests.
Damn Apple hype (good or bad)! :(

At least better than not covering any part of the device (raise it up at an angle with a raiser) to see your connectivity just 'dances' to the point it actually lose signal (even though there's 3 bar, you just can connect). It happen to my ipad within 3 weeks of receiving it from Apple as a replacement.

AnonD-1906, 11 Jun 2011Now i handstands what you are trying to say. You think that... moreNot sure where you are getting this from but I don't recall ever saying the iPad was a PC. Its a tablet. And if you think its overpriced then you haven't looked at the pricing for the competition. You might want to check that out. The iPad has so much incredible software available for it that it already can do what a traditional computer can do. The iPad 2 is now able to record and edit HD movies. And having a mobile version of iMovie is awesome. And I never said you didn't know what Linux was, but your response to it made it seem like you were not familiar with Linux's presence in business and industry. And if you think a tablet will never replace a traditional computer/PC... those days are coming. If the iPad can record and edit movies and music, edit photos, create presentations and spreadsheets, play thousands of games... then it is already doing a great deal of what a desktop or laptop already does. And there are multiple tablets just around the corner from others.

I honestly think that you just hate Apple so much that anything anyone says that makes them look good or paints a positive picture of them - you try to muffle it or reduce its worth... or deny it altogether. There are so many good companies out there and to take one of the biggest ones and act like nothing they do is good - is just ignorant.

Apple themselves were primarily responsible for Apple's revitalization. And MS was not the happy "giver" either. Apple survived because they knew what choices to make, and they were smart choices. That and a bit of new found vision. That's the same Apple we see today. Linux is used A LOT in business due to its security over Windows. And it allows corporations to form fit the OS to suit the needs of their business. Where I work its exactly that scenario. And YES Linux is great for business... our email is MS Exchange and its running on our Linux based OS. And you are not seeing what I am saying about all the PC vendors. Regardless of the OS its running, Apple or no Apple - they still all would be competing against each other for price and market share (HP vs Dell vs Acer, etc). Apple's Macs don't really affect PC prices. What's to make someone choose an HP laptop over a Dell? Not much. So they need to compete on price. Whats to make them choose a MacBook over a Dell? A lot! So price doesn't play as much of a role when someone decides to buy a Mac. I know for me it didn't matter.

As for Macs growing in market share:

I didn't think I needed to provide any info regarding that topic since it clearly isn't nonsense. You do seem to be a bit of an anti-Apple guy. But that doesn't give anyone the right to rewrite history or post misleading information. More and more people are buying Macs these days than ever before. Mac sales have quietly gone through the roof! Most of the focus has been on iOS and their devices that the Mac side was just allowed to grow in the background. I know more people now that have Macs than I ever did before.

MS did use some Apple technology and ended up having to pay them for it (settling the law suits). However, if Apple's technology wasn't so good, MS wouldn't have used that technology in the first place.
