is this true? if sprint and T-Mobile will emerge what will be the new name? LoL is it sprint mobile? XD just saying. But well this is going to be a great idea. 2 major carriers who offer very low price for phone and for plans. This is going to be the #1 carrier of all time. just improve the signals and data connection. :)

I really don't know how to feel about this. I work for Office Depot, and the FCC turned down our merger with Staples a few years back because they didn't want us monopolizing and being the sole "major" office supplier in the United States. This stemmed from the fact that a lot of the contracts Office Depot & Office Max have are government contracts, and they definitely weren't going to allow us to monopolize and price gouge them.
What I'm getting at here is that with the "Big 4" becoming the new "Big 3" for major cellular providers, they can start charging more because there is less competition.

Verizon: CDMA 2G & 3G network + LTE (LTE is based on GSM). The CDMA service is set to be shouted down soon. They have about 147 million customers.
AT&T: GSM 2G + 3G + LTE. The 2G network was unplugged early this year. About 136 million customers.
T-Mobile: GSM 2G, 3G and LTE. 74 millions customers and constantly growing.
Sprint: CDMA 2G + 3G and LTE. I believe 58 millions customers.

Other facts:
The 3G and 3.5G data service offered by Sprint and T-mobile are not compatible.
The LTE service is compatible, but T-mobile is using the LTE bads: 2, 4, 5, 12, 66 and 71, and Sprints LTE bands are: 25, 26 and 41. The band 25 covers a little bit of band 4, but they are not inter-operable.
Also, they are very few zones where Sprint has service and T-mobile does not have.

Plus T-mobile is huge in Europe isn't it? This will affect way more than just the U.S.

I actually like this move because it means Best Buy and their great weekly discounts might start selling T-Mobile phones again and hopefully make phones compatible foe both networks. Sprint is definitely the least friendly with network compatibility and unlocked devices.
Where T-Mobile and Sprint excel in is pricing and promo deals considering they are less popular than Verizon and AT&T with weaker coverage.

I'm on T-Mobile now after choosing it over Verizon. I believe Verizon has better coverage. Anytime I go to Urban Plates near my house, I never get signal with any other carrier except Verizon. I only chose TMo because my Pixel bill credits of $325 for 24 months kicked in. TMo is just cheaper, most of my phones work on it, and customer service seems friendlier.
With that said, I HATE SPRINT. Worst of the major four. Their unlock system is convoluted. It's not as easy as pop the sim and it works right away. Their data speed is horrendous and the least compatible of the four to the others. The only good thing are their prices at Best Buy.
I would have cared maybe seven months ago when I still had Sprint. After my Sprint G5 couldn't recognize anymore sims, I realized the only phones I plan to buy from now on are UNLOCKED phones. No carrier bloatware, boot animation, branding, and locked to these leeches. My G5 (RS988) arrived yesterday and it works like a dream. LG Backup made everything quick and easy. Kept it on Marshmallow as RAM usage is 10-15% lower than Nougat. No carrier bloatware sipping on RAM. My all-time favorite phone just got better.
Get only unlocked, iPhones, or Pixels. Carrier bloatware and being locked to Sprint is the worst.

This should have happened a long time ago. They're finally getting around to doing what everyone assumed they would do like 8 years ago.
