So if I root, I can still use root in Samsung Dex mode and have any distro of Linux available on Linux Deploy working on my TV? I wouldn't care about the fingerprint reader or Samsung Pay/Health/Secure folder since I don't use those apps. I also wouldn't care about the OTA updates since I'll have TWRP. The big question is my warranty/resell value of my phone really worth waiting for Samsung to release Linux on Dex, and how much more money are they going to try to get out of everyone for using it? You can already see $150 for an adapter with built-in fan wasn't a big enough expense to everyone considering the survey they recently took asked if you'd be willing to pay for Linux on Dex. I'm not buying another Samsung phone, I'll wait for OnePlus 6 or Pixel 3, whichever is better. This will be the last time I let a company jerk me around saying I damaged my hardware before they've looked at it. That's like Google saying Lucky Patcher is malware despite the fact it's hosted in the Downloads section on Netbrew and they've made zero attempts for anyone to 'accidentally' download it. In conclusion, modding can be a good/bad thing depending on how much work developers have put in to making improvements. It's literally only Samsung who's making the decision harder to jump on.

Only point to root is when software support ends for your phone, I just rooted my Samsung s4, which was about time to do, it's like new, fast and relevant with line age OS, it can rival any midrange by speed, only falls short in RAM capacity comparing to other top midrange 2gb, by speedwise Snapdragon 600, is close to 625, so can performreally decently, putting right custom Rom to your old phone can bring it to life like you can beleive it as long as flagship or newer high end midranger, really not going to change anything if you own low end device with pesky mediatek chipset or Snapdragon 400

The most usefull app after rooting is firewall. and addblocker. the downside is that some spyware may not work.

It's your phone. You're the one paying hundreds if not a thousand dollars for it.
You should be able to root it, if you like.
I don't like how companies are overstepping their boundaries by making it impossible and illegal to use your legal purchased hardware the way you want to. And its doubley worrying when they trap their users, and abuse their power by putting bloat, gimmicks, and Apps you can't get rid of... and use those as an excuse to stop supporting the software.
It's the reason why companies like OnePlus can exist and thrive, due to the incompetence of the greedy large corporations.
