I'd rather said "The iPhone X pretends to be the first Apple device with a TrueDepth front-facing camera that enables Face ID". For now iPhoneXis a prototype that nobody can find in the store.

FaceID makes a lot more sense on an iPad.
Why couldn't Apple used that to launch the product, and test the waters?
It really feels like the iPhone X is an unfinished product, at extortionate prices.

AnonD-694451, 10 Oct 2017lol, what the hell are you talking about??? you don't need ... moreThat's correct, you don't need to look at your phone to use TouchId. But then, why would you unlock your phone and not look at it to see what's on the screen or to simply see if it did successfully unlock?
I guess what they're saying is that you have to look at the screen anyway so using the FaceId isnt really an extra step to "USING" your phone and it is secure.

If that explanation is true then the passcode screen should come up the first time he tried to unlock the device.. But he tried 2 times and failed and only on the 3rd time meaning the FaceID did indeed FAIL.. He then proceed to the backup phone which has no security set and unlock without using FaceID.. Actually they knew that it is prone to failure that is why they had a backup phone without FaceID right beside on the stage.. If they are really CONFIDENT then there is no need for a backup phone.. Or if there is a backup phone it will be behind the stage only to be handed IF the situation calls for and NOT on standby beside him.. Just swallow the FAIL pill.. Though if Steve Jobs were still here he will make sure this would not happen.. Steve must have spinned in his grave when the FaceID demonstration failed. LOL

The face id on the iPhone X only allows one person's face to be registered. I hope they don't do that to the ipad or else it will fail big time as ipads are usually family devices.

And requir... moreSame thing in finger print scanner because you have to look at your phone every time you do that right because you have to look at your phone whether is is unlock or not. The face ID is convenient for me because you just have to look at your phone even not in the eye level unlike the iris scanner.

Anyway, this was expected. The way Apple unveiled Face ID at the event was a clear sign that they are going to phase out Touch ID in favor of this on all their products. I am not worried, you can say what you want about Apple, but when they make a leap like this one, it means they're sure it's going to work.
