I guess people don't care as much about VR as companies want us to think. But it's because
1: Market saturated with poor quality headsets meant for devices not capable of providing a good VR experience
2: The expensive cost of a good VR set up (Note4+ and Gear VR required, SD821+ and OLED display AND a Daydream, 3+ USB 3.0+ plugs AND 7th gen Core ix HQ or if 8th gen, plus GTX 1060 recommended AND a Mixed Reality headset or Vive/Occulus)
    3: The lack of content

The surprising thing is not that they shut down their VR Division. The surprising thing is that it was allowed to function for so long.

These among others have been the reason for the demise of Nokia.

Slow to change, not innovative enough and a complete lack of reality check.

Makes perfect business sense and is applicable to further iterations is all. All businesses need to be flexible to market changes or development. It has nothing to do with OZO for phones.

But but what about muh Star Wars VIII VR made with Nokia OZO? If that content is good, I hope Nokia revive that branch again.

What will happen to the Ozo surround sound of Nokia phones then? Will that be available in future Nokia phones?

Anonymous, 10 Oct 2017vr could have been as successful as modern smartphones and ... moreVR is not for smartphones only. The OZO was thought for movie studios, serious content creation, VR news and sports coverage. The world is just not ready.

it seems that even the professionals did not want to waste their money by buying this camera.

No matter what they say VR isn't really ready yet. It needs better GPUs, more dense and higher frame-rate displays, and better content to get immersed. I don't think I can see that earlier than 2030.

vr could have been as successful as modern smartphones and this device which was sold for $60k at times would still struggle to gain a 'market'

Nokia will aquire HMD within 2-3 years ...the fact that they're getting rid of certain investments points to that.

VR is something that in my point of view is stupid, it can only have purpose (when technology evolves more) in console markets and specialized simulators (training purposes).
What REALLY (and I focus REALLY) is AR.
Augmented Reality will bring a revolution to the world when technology gets to the point of being well implemented in smartphones and other devices like the now defunct Google Glass.

I guess some will stop taking shots at Apple as not innovative because they did not jump on that bandwagon. I tried both Oculus and Vive 18 months ago, while the experience was great, I just could not see a big market for those products. VR will not go beyond the niche following it currently enjoys, the tech is just not there yet for the regular users. The best vr can hope for meanwhile is the size of home console, and that is very optimistic on my part.
