confirmed - "Phone 7 can't put out greater than 400GFLOPS" thus, we persume iphone 8/X around 2 times @ 800GFLOPS, thus, seems iphone 7 is a bit better than ps3 performance @ 300 Gflops

it's noted a switch is close to a 800 gflops in performance and that ps vita is around 60gflops and 3ds is around 6gflops

    however, ps4 is at 1840gflop, ps4 pro 4184 gflop

imparanoic, 11 Oct 2017very different, mobile vr is prerendered 360 degree video ... moreA PS4 is not really powerful though. A gaming PC is about 8 times faster, about the kind of difference (in oerformance) which exists between a ps3 and a ps4.

In fact the new GPU from iPhone 8 is 80% the power of PS4's. So if a PS4 can do hifi VR so can mobile phones, if not 2017's, 2018's certainly would.

The only reason that mobile VR looks PS2 like is lack of interest or a serious push. If someone were to optimize for high end phones alone mobile VR would have had a point of existence.

Sadly none of the established playes understand tha mobile VR is a million times better than tethered VR and when they'd do, probably somebody that will become rich at their expense...

Given the very wide field of view that is needed to feel truly immersed in virtual reality the screen resolution needs to be a minimum of 8k but realistically I think 16k will be the sweet spot for seamless reality but even if we work with 8k for now that's 33 megapixels per eye at between 90 to 120 frames per second.
We are a long way from being able to run a AAA game at anything close to these specifications. My personal belief is it will be around 2035 before VR and GPU reach their optimum visual quality.

4k gaming today on a AAA game with all settings turned up can be just about playable with a single high end card, you would need at least 2 cards to run silky smooth 120fps, 8k is 4x the resolution of 4k so we are now at 8 cards, this is one screen so for VR you need 16 cards. And that is just to run today's games, we need hardware to speed up significantly faster than game demands to make this a reality, a virtual reality!

I'm not sure silicon is up to the task in all honesty, we need a new material that we can clock much faster and produces less heat whilst doing so. I think sadly 2035 is probably way too optimistic for a 16+ performance increase.

oculus rift, htc vive, ps vr are relatively high fidelity VR hence, why you need a powerful pc or ps4 to power the visuals
