AnonD-684709, 13 Oct 2017No, they don't have a larger display. Quite the opposite is... more@Fuji-san. Are you really that dense? You're comparing the wrong phones, fool! You're doing an apple-to-orange comparison between the S8 and the S7 Edge. You need to compare the screen size of the S7 to its successor the S8, and the S7 Edge to the S8+. In both cases the screens of the S8 and S8+ have the same width as the S7 and S7 Edge respectively. The S8's are just taller phones with more vertical screen real estate than the S7's. Quit trying so hard to complain about problems that don't exist!

AnonD-684709, 12 Oct 2017It's actually YOU who is wrong. This disgusting 18:9 ratio ... moreIt's not my problem if you're too blind and stupid to know how to make proper use of 18:9. The text wrap and web browsing works just fine for me. Bottom line is... the phone makers are moving forward in droves to make 18:9 phones that better suit MY needs not yours. That makes you the loser who has to adapt to us normal people, not me. I get to have what I want so I WIN !! xD

Ryan, 12 Oct 2017You can have different aspect ratio with the same width, yo... moreNo, they don't have a larger display. Quite the opposite is true, they have less *usable* space.
            Let's compare the S7 edge (5.5") with the S8 (fake 5.8"):
            https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=7945&idPhone2=8161

As you can see, the S7 edge has a usable width of 72.6 mm, and the S8 has only a usable width of 68.1 mm. Clearly less usable width, almost half a centimetre less! The S8 is in fact only a 5.3" device (not 5.8") with some useless space on top. Due to less usable width, the S8 will have clearly more word wrapping, resulting in more uncomfortable reading and requiring more scrolling.

The picture I posted shows the truth. You can stick your head in the sand as much as you want, but that won't change the fact that 18:9 is just horrible for web browsing and reading texts in general.

7.7, 12 Oct 2017Well then you're not going to like this. https://www.gsmare... moreWhat do you mean? A5 2018 is listed as having 5.5" - that is smaller than 5.93” of Honor 7X. I expect A5 to be smaller for sure because Samsung also always release A7 with bigger display.

This disgusting 18:9 ratio ... moreYou can have different aspect ratio with the same width, you do know that right? i think you're comparing them with the same display size, all of the 18:9 phones have larger display to compensate for the higher ratio. that image is biased and invalid.

KeyserSoze, 11 Oct 2017@Fuji-san. You're wrong, 18:9 is very usable for dual-wind... moreIt's actually YOU who is wrong. This disgusting 18:9 ratio has PITIFUL usability.

The amount of widescreen videos on the internet is ludicrously little. With 98% of all videos, you'll have ugly black bars in full screen mode, so you can forget about an immersive video experience.

18:9 is even far worse for web browsing than for videos. It's narrower than 16:9, so you'll have much more word wrapping, resulting in texts that are far less pleasant and convenient to read, and you have even more scrolling with 18:9.

Here's a text comparison between the two:

AnonD-684709, 11 Oct 2017How sad you apparently can't escape from this horrible 18:9... more@Fuji-san. You're wrong, 18:9 is very usable for dual-window multitasking, widescreen movies, and web page browsing. It gives you the needed vertical screen space that was taken away by the top status bar and bottom on-screen nav bar on 16:9 phones. To keep their vertical dimension from being too tall, 18:9 phones compensate by greatly reducing the top and bottom bezel size. The ideal diagonal size for an 18:9 phablet with tiny or zero side-bezel is around 6.0". This is comparable in usable screen real estate to a 16:9 phablet with 5.7" diagonal size.
