why hmd is unable to catch up????
augmented reality, of which apple is making a big deal out of now, was available as an app i think in nokia 6600 back in 2007. back in 2012 while nokia was making a shift to windows phone, i read somewhere that custom hardware and software device takes 2 years in development. but a device with pre-built soc and software takes 8-11 months. every android manufacturer follows this cycle. believe it or not iphone 12 scheduled for 2019 must be in design phase now(2017. android manufacturers do not have this luxury because of this fast 8-11 month updrade cycle, also soc(its componenets) and the os(android) must follow certain compatibility guidelines. which hindres nokia(hmd) or any other oem to add features to their products.

As many have already said. It makes a lot more sense to try to sell the 9 instead of the 8. With drones like Flossy Carter with an IQ of less than the latests iPhone iteration, you get a perfect representative of the capitalist modern society of 'Murica. Just sell them the flashy crap no one sane would buy.

Everyone else is going to buy either a OnePlus 5/Nokia 8/Mi5 for performance at a normal price, or a Nokia 6/Huawei/cheaper yet equally good alternative for everything else.

The oneplus 5 cost 200-50 but sells for 499e, the profit margin is minimal while apple has 3x profit margin.

Nokia lost its momentum. No market is to blame, but the failure to inovate is what bring the big guys down (anyone remembers RIM?).

This is not about banding as you can see the Nokia 8 can be used on T-Mobile 4G network
It is a rather lame but commercial decision to launch the bezel less Nokia 9

The Nokia 9 apart from being bezel less is marginally superior to the Nokia 8, phones now that Apple have 'invented' bezel less phones are now what is considered premium

The Nokia 8 Snapdragon 835 benchmarks are slightly behind the OnePlus5 , but ahead of the Google Pixel
The Nokia 8 with memory expansion would cost hundreds of $ less than going for the 128Gb versions of Pixel or OP5

Launching only the NEW flagship Nokia 9 put's it Apple iPhone X and the premium snapdragon 835 Samsung S8

Nokia have decided not to compete with itself, and rather hope that devotees will actively seek out the 9

In the UK the Nokia 8 is available online
It is nit one display in Carphone Warehouse a major all network phone seller, afaik but with 4 networks who have stores on the high-street still searching.

Nokia lost the world market due to its fixation with entering the US market.

It would be good if they go back to their roots and make 'good & unique phones for humans' - and this time, pair them with high quality hardware. They were much more ahead than both Android and iOS back then - but typically had bad processors & ram on their phones.

Back then, it was a 'black day' for me when i realized the fan boys were too fixated on Nokia to not see its negatives like a low-end processor on a flagship device + less ram etc. - their arguments were strangely similar to iOS fanboys.

Smart decision. US drones only know iPhone and to a degree Samsung...with a very tiny portion left for Google phones. There's no place for cheap (yet even better) alternatives.

You could try selling a plane for $10 to an American and he won't buy it unless it has an Apple logo, a Nike logo, or a McDonalds logo.
