I have to wonder if this guy actually knows what he's talking about. The shield K1's had Nougat for months, but he makes it sound like it's getting it soon.

they should prepare the successor with stronger chipset like nvidia Tegra X1, display with better color reproduction like s-amoled, bigger battery, bigger memory

mr adrian , 16 Oct 2017this is why apple devices will always win you win see even ... moreWhat it has to do with apple? Oldest devices getting updates, but performance are abysmal and battery life sucks, just to push you to buy new device anyway, more than 3 year old apple device = garbage, yeah apple wins!

It got updated to Nougat 7.0 from Kitkat 4.4.
Even Google's own devices never got that kind of long update cycle.
So we couldn't really ask for more. Thank you NVIDIA and please do make more Android smartphones/tablets.

For the amazing K1 specification, OREO could have been an advantageous update making full use of the architecture and more. Nvidia holds a reputable established position in the market and it troubles me that they would pass on further enhancing a Premier "Android" gaming tablet especially with the new Atari console boasting a Linux based OS and Android having established such a prolific share of the market.

Anonymous, 15 Oct 2017The GPU is Volta, CPU is customized and the chipset it call... moreI already know about Xavier, as you could've assumed.
However, Tegra X avier is built for autonomous cars, and Internet of Things. What does this mean? It doesn't have the limitations of going "mobile".

Xavier is much larger in size than the oversized Tegra X1, it requires active cooling (ie/ a fan), and it consumes a lot of power (20 Watts, around TEN FOLDS higher than phones, more than Ultrabooks, or around a Big/Gaming Laptop's SoC power draw).

On top of that, the CPU's are quite weak. Nvidia is using the GPU power to do most of the processing, which is actually targeted at Neural Processing/Deep Learning. So this is a different tool all together. And not to mention, its built on the old 16nm lithography... not that it matters as much for a semi-mobile platform like the Xavier.

I'm talking stronger CPU's. Better wafer/efficiency.... then a good GPU based on Pascal (Volta would be neat). All of that new-current technology into the three form-factors that Nvidia-Android has seen before for consumers, in probably a more refined hardware.

[deleted post]Despite what people say.... this was a good product at its time, and decently priced.

I'd like to see Nvidia design a new mobile chipset (< 5W) for 2017, based upon 12nm fab, using ARM DynamIQ, with Cortex A75 and Cortex A55. However the GPU should be powered by Pascal or Volta microarchitecture.

I'd love to see Nvidia release new, at the same time, Shield handheld ($499), Shield tablet ($349), and Shield TV Box ($199) in 2018 with this new Tegra chipset.
