It feels great to hold a cold-feeling metal (even GSMArena admit love to hold the anodized N8 and hates the GS2 poor grip), and it add style and rigidness too. Sure the advantages are mostly for style, but that's why people buying an Audi over Hyundai.

Composite structures - featuring a mixture of materials, and benefitting from the positive attributes of each - is the way forward. In this particular case, the amount of metal present in the casing is significantly reduced, whereas for a metal "skin" that would be glued to the outside of a plastic chassis this outer skin would need to be thicker purely so it could be handled during the manufacturing process.
Personally - being a cynic - I think any metal in the casing is going to give an issue - regardless of how small - but having a significantly reduced amount of metal in the outer casing can only be a good thing.
I'd love to see a Carbon Fibre/kevlar composite case for a phone - even if just for pose value - since I suspect producing it would be prohibitively expensive... I've seen plenty of fake carbon covers that look ok, the real deal should look fantastic, and be metal free!

Cover your metal antenna with a metallic sheath(or a fine mesh) and notice the attenuation and as a control use a plastic covering and then notice if signal drops. Enclose a radiating system with metal and the signal is attenuated . That is Physics.

Just make phones out of pure plastic. That is a proper solution. Plastics are better than metal for construction. Low weight, low attenuation and nearly the same structural strength. Plastics can absorb and dampen impacts. They are moulded instead of stamped which makes their manufacturing easier.
