This is expected. iPhone 8 is just a refreshed version of iPhone 7, there is no point shelling out more for the 8. Same design with a glass back, slightly faster processor, little improved camera doesn't make 8 a worthy upgrade from 7. This year only iPhone X makes sense if one can bear that pricing otherwise iPhone 7 Plus is the best to buy and save money even for those who are upgrading from a 6/6s.

@F1rstman iPhone was and always be special on its own, There's no doubt about it, you don't have to mentioned anything with your experience to justify your argument. What thing matter is, Apple was just competing itself, the predecessor outselling the successor which may be surprising. Imo, iPhone 8 does very little advatages over its predecessor. or maybe just maybe, Apple fans might be waiting for the iphone x release so we dont know really yet.

Law if diminishing returns, rules now a days. Even extra ordained price, lack of Android software, high time we get fed up in repeating over over again. Starving has not gone to that extent.

Apple made the mistake of announcing the iPhone X too early. They wanted to announce it to celebrate iPhone's 10 years but the limited quantities should have made them pushed it back for next year. Face ID is a band-aid feature because they couldn't get the Touch ID under the display on time.
The rumors of iPhone X was rumored at least 18 months ago and majority of it became true including OLED, glass back, less bezel, and high pricing. So what happened was the X announcement cannibalized and ruined the 8's chances. That and looking similar to the iPhone 6 & 7 series doesn't help. The 7 could be had for cheap these days at 30% of a reduced cost from its retail price last year.
All this limited quantity of the X could be partially true and partially a way for consumers to choose the 8 series as a stop gap. Apple should have announced the X six weeks after the 8. I'm not personally interested in any iPhone except the SE mainly because it is the best phone for $150 and don't want such a lazy, arrogant company like Apple to get any richer just because their users are shallow and idiotic.
I will not get another iPhone until they return to having a metal back like the 5-7 series all had. Sticky icky with all glass rears that would dirty my other phones with matte finishes. I know the successor to the SE will get a glass rear as well next March. Don't need wireless charging. I want to rock metal! You can kiss my *** with glass.

This is no surprise considering the fact that the smartphone market is already oversaturated, and the iPhone 8/8+ is overshadowed by the iPhone X.

On the other hand the aPple buyers (in general) buy it for the bragging rights, so why would they by the 8 when the X is expected in a few weeks?

Google have included the esim which is infinitely more superior an aid to security, than upgrade to face unlock from fingerprint
In my opinion I just can't fathom why anyone would spend that amount on an iPhone as the price is artificially high, indeed it it a justification for Android phones to be higher when competition tends to reduce the price
iPhone ever increasing sales cannot continue upwards, there will be a point, iPhones will still be a success.
I regularly access gsmarena, and only upgrade after research
What I don't understand is why anyone would pay for a gimmick , why would face unlock in the dark be a feature
IPhone X will be a winner, unless IPhone owners come to their senses

No wonder that there are few sales of the iPhone 8 with that dated design bezels included. iPhoneX is the interesting one with the bezels display and AMOLED like the Samsung GS8/Note.

This is the part the apple will fall
their newly features introduced in both 8 and x are already in android phones
And apple can't tell us that the x has the best mobile display screen while we have s8 and note8 (consider pixel density + Amoled)
And also they can't tell us that x has the best camera while we have pixel 2xl.
So what's the point no? Most won't get it $999 Jxt only for fast processing chip...
In other the way if they consider buying it then we should agree that Apple sells by its brand name...

The last iPhone to offer a metal back. I would get a 7 Plus in matte black but I already have a titan V20 which is the superior phone thanks to wide-angle lens, second display with my personal signature, microSD slot, IR blaster, FM radio, and the last to offer removable battery from a flagship. Planning to use my G5, V20, and SE for the next five years, so nomore new phones for me until 2022.
V20 is generally my backup in case my G5 ever breaks down or gets stolen. They have the same exact apps and the arrangement from wallpaper is all the same. The iPhone 7 has the highest SAR for any iPhone ever. 7 Plus is the 2nd highest. I actually think the iPhone 8 / 8 Plus is underrated thanks to the wait for the X.
Just remember -
8 Plus has same SoC as X
8 Plus has similar camera as X
8 Plus has bigger battery
Some prefer glass over metal because it isn't as slippery
Metal scratches will show a different color underneath
Touch ID (might be last to offer it)
Wireless & fast charging over the 7 series
Louder dual front speakers than 7 (X doesn't offer it)
No hassle getting one right now
Design is a 4, 6, & 7 series remixed
I personally don't care for any iPhone that has iOS11 and the 8 and X will have them out of the box. The only iPhone designs that I actually like has a black front.
iPhone 5s, space gray (shiny chamfered edges)
iPhone SE, space gray (lost the shine)
iPhone 2G
I don't like white fronts. The X is divisive. I rank it as a mediocre iPhone design. The 8 series is probably the best version of the 6 series design since it is reminiscent of the 4/4s series.

Seriously, I have the iPhone 8 and it's the best phone I've ever used. I've tried S8, XZ1, G6 and U11. None of these phones can come close to an iPhone and the iPhone 8 in particular. It's a merciless beast and 'everything just works'. I prefer iOS over Android and I can afford the 8. So, yeah, that's why I have the iPhone 8 :)*

iOS is archaic OS.
Iphone 8 do have a very powerful soc with a very limited OS (so basically like having a 2000 hp super car but can only drive it on muddy road full of holes )

I'm not surprised. If I were in the market for an iphone, the 7 is the one to get. Wireless charging and a faster processor are nice gimmick to have, but not necessary, and certainly not worth 150 over a phone that's essentially the same. Lets not forget that you can get two 7s for the price of one X...
