And people wonder why updates on non pixel phones are so slow if Google comes up with a new android version so quickly.
I love android, but I'm sure that if android is still out there over 10 years the update issues from now will still exsist.

Now people will start complaining that their phone only has 8.0, not 8.1, just like they complained about only having 7.0, not 7.1?
Don't you people get it? It brings small updates that mainly concern the Pixel's or stock Android smartphones. Other custom skins already have them implemented built-in.
For example, 7.1 brought new emoji support to Pixels, that was already available in S7 with 7.0. And clearly 8.1 is enable a hardware feature on the Pixel, so other smartphones don't need 8.1......

The "Visual Core" in the Pixel 2 uses a huge amount of space, and looks like its repetitive-hardware (a la GPU) but designed to handle floating-point (or "random") algorithm data sets. Which is how the extra horesepower helps in the post-processing stage to deliver much cleaner photographs.
However, one can't deny the startling similarities between Google's VisualCore and Huawei's NPU both being announced in the last couple days. However, Huawei seems to have the "stronger" hardware and a solution looking for a problem. Google's gone with a more elegant problem first, solution second using more modest hardware.

What I don't like is that now most manufacturers will only launch Oreo 8.0 instead of 8.1 because they're lazy.
Why is my S7 stuck at 7.0? Why not 7.1.2? How hard is it to add those small updates? Laziness.
I would like 8.1 on my S7, not 8.0, when it comes out.
I don't mind waiting because my S7 still has more features than a Pixel phone, though the Pixel is a great phone nonetheless.

Moto G4 None Plus versions are all Pissed Off that Lenovo won't provide Oreo Update.
This will happen with other Motorola phones.

limafranco, 18 Oct 2017Nice, meanwhile, my S8 still runs the brand new Android 7.0... moreAnd that s8 has more features in it and does things that others have to wait for the updates to get.
Bring higher teched and mite featured packed with more devices to work on means the updates take more time and money. But while you're waiting you already have the most advanced ui out.
Though if they could hier a few more people to make things go faster in the development and reach a few mite devices that would be a fantastic idea that they seem to not want

I hope they fix Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
I have had an Xperia XZ1 for around two weeks now, and Bluetooth is plagued with diverse issues whilst WiFi reception is spottier and worse than with my old Xperia Z...
