macky2green, 25 Oct 2017What's the difference between stock Android (Pixel, Nexus, ... morePure Android - Nexus, fastest updates, 2 years support, biggest community support

Google Android - Pixel devices only (No more Project Silver/Play Edition Device). Very Fast updates, 3 year commitment, still slower than Nexus, big community support.

AndroidOne - A1 certified devices only. Medium speed updates. All security updates available. Minor/major updates skipped since Google has been quite lazy on support. New conditions allow OEMs to push updates, which should be about as good, ie/ not very good support. Decent length of support usually around 20 months. Very little interest from community support (should change with higher quality devices).

Stock-ish Android - SONY/OnePlus/Blackberry/Nokia/Moto devices. Medium speed updates. Most minor updates skipped. Some security updates missed. Varying support from 6-30months, but usually around 14 months. Decent Community support depending on root, bootloader, kernel sources, drivers, and documentation.

Skinned Android - Samsung TouchWizz, LG GUI, HTC Sense etc etc.
Depends entirely on specific device, OEM, and carrier barrier. Usually decent security updates. But bad platform upgrades. Slow, outdated and sometimes buggy support. Usual support around 9 months.

Heavy Skin Android - Good luck Haha.
Depends on the OEM, stay away from the likes of Lenovo and other Chinese brands as much as possible.

GSMArena staff/writers don't care about a decent OS (stability, fast updates, long support). I say this as a fact, because they do NOT name and shame when they have the chance, which they do every day, but instead bend to the will of OEMs in their reviews so that they will get more announcement invitations, review units, and revenue. As much as people hate Apple, they get some fundamentals about the iPhone done right which is the envy of all other OEMs.

What's the difference between stock Android (Pixel, Nexus, Moto, etc.) and Android One?

I've only found 3 issues with the A1. There are too few Sound Levels, luminous levels and no double tap.

I finally replaced my Nexus 5 after four years, because the battery wouldn't hold much charge and a replacement wiped out my wireless charging (there is a very delicate contact between the charging antenna on the back cover and circuit board in the phone). The replacement is an LG G5, which is an improvement over the Nexus 5 because it has a replaceable battery and will take a Micro SD card. I miss wireless charging, but can adapt it with a cheap antenna. I wish it were as small as the N5, though.

Android one devices are great as long as manufacturers don't delay the updates. They can be good replacement to Nexus devices if they come with higher mid range specs like a Snapdragon 660 and 4 GB Ram.
Add a good enough camera and it will become the perfect Nexus replacement.

Of course the Nexus is missed. The pixel is over priced.
Especially the XL 2 right now. It is the most over priced Android phone available. Worst value for money of Android devices.
It is literally the iPhone of Androids.

Went back to my Nexus5 after a week with the S8+. Still decently fast though it gets hot and sucks the battery too much though I did that with 13 application updates while playing a 3D game. It could be worse if data/LTE is enabled.
I guess we are seeing the benefits of the latest process nodes, from 28nm, 20nm, 14nm, to the latest 10nm.

Basically, NFC on iPhone is only for Apple Pay (and whatever Apple planning to use it for). No other way for third party to use it. That's why most people who want to reload their prepaid card using banking app, would prefer Android with NFC.

Yo got it reversed. Android One still offer fast update. It does not, however, offer fast upgrade. It will be month before it get upgraded to new version of Android. As for monthly security update, it actually updated quite fast. Mostly, as late as on the middle of the month. And I get those experience on non famous brand, Infinix. I'm sure Motorola and Xiaomi should be better at that.

Now back on the article. How does getting Oreo has something to do with curing the bug? Isn't patch on monthly security update should be enough? It still counted as system update so it should be able to fix the problem. Can someone enlighten me? (._.)a

                        Thus, iphone is useless..

Not too mention that iphone battery size is too darn small.

                          Lets be realistic...

If nexus line were continued, other Android maker will collapse because google selling premium device at affordable price. Google need to be fair to Android manufacturer.

                          So....
Flagship + premium = expensive (pixel)
Medium low specs + medium low price = android 1.

                          This is fair...

Google Pixel = Google Nexus + Google Greed.

Android One has nothing to do with the Nexus line. Google is too greedy nowadays to afford a real Nexus line.

That is real reason why Nexus was better. The google did those upgrades. Android one upgrades Are made by manufacturer, there just is pure Android that makes those upgrades easier than to those phones that have crapware on them.

If Google sold the Pixel 2 (5 inch) for US $399... then effectively that would be a 2017 Nexus. When looking back at the NexusS, Gnex price-cut, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and Nexus 5X.

But Google is selling it for nearly US $700, and even worse in the international market.

Because readers should always remember, there's no such thing as a bad product.... only a bad price!

How long your Android One will get updates
All partners have committed to giving software updates for at least 18 months after the phone's launch. All Android One phones will get at least one major software update and several smaller security updates.

if this is saying by they google in terms & conditions how will android one platform can be compared to nexus lineup.google after certain point of time will stop android one bcz they know that people will buy more android one phone than pixel phones which will be catastrophic.
