Counterclockwise: going from squarish screens to widescreen

In the beginning, (nearly) square aspect ratios were common on phone screens, but now they are going wider and wider.

18:9 is the most useless aspect ratio. It's like trying to read on a bottle or something like that. I was and will always be in favour of 16:9 as it is a good middle ground.

18:9 is just planned obsolescence. Manufacturers want to resell the same products, TVs etc. again.

4:3 is the best aspect ratio, because it is the closest to the human eye. 16:9 is worse, but it's understandable for phones, because 4:3 phones would be too wide to fit in the hands. Old phones with keyboard had 4:3 screen, but since the screen replaced the keyboard, the screen could be extended only vertically. The monitors and TVs should have to remain 4:3. 18:9 is the worst and most useless aspect ratio.

No I'm never gonna love 18:9. I don't want to read news and web sites like I'm reading from a toothpaste tube or a shampoo bottle. If humans suddenly evolve eyes to prefer reading text from toothpaste tubes and shampoo bottles and prefer to do word processing in an 18:9 computer monitor, or appreciate 18:9 vertical billboards more than 16:9 horizontal ones, if humans suddenly develop an appetite for scrolling desktop webpages in their phablets, if they like viewing webpages not designed for mobile use and love panning the desktop webpage left and right on their phones, then yes, the 18:9 era has started. Until then, 18:9 is a fad and remains a fad reserved for the minority who do nothing but watch movies on their phones.

Sadly it's people like you and me who really drive the sales of such companies when they were growing and they forget about us.
A good analogy is the Xbox Kinect(or Nintendo wii) where REAL gamers never wanted/used it but it was a hit for some time with the mass market. The mass market got bored and the companies had to return to their roots to survive.

5:4 is what it used to be. Now, 16:9. That changed quickly. Dont bother much with this 18:9. You all gonna learn to love it. Younger generation wont even know 16:9 exist.

I will choose a 16:9 screen than 18:9 screen because it cheaper, more sturdy than 18:9 or even 21:9 screen, lightweight as a smartphone, more handy and smaller in palm and solid than taller smartphone
