You know, I can tow a trailer behind a little Mitsubishi Mirage car.... doesn't mean I will.
I'd instead grab a Utility Truck, or a decent sedan for the task.
You get the gist?

While the concept of the switch is awesome, not denying that.
It's the execution where I have issues with it. Remember, details matter.
I wouldn't recommend the GPD Win for the average buyer either. It's not about how many things a device can do, but rather, how well it can do those things.

Its the same reason, year after year, I recommend the iPad to people. Because it really is the best tablet out there, much better than any Android tablet or Windows convertible... because it does a limited amount of things well. That's why professional carpenters do not use one/few multi-tool sets... instead, they have a lot of tools that do their intended job nicely. A hammer that hammers. A pin punch that punches. Not some Swiss Army knife that's a novelty, no they have reliable quality devices for the intended task at hand.

It’s easy to call something different as GIMMICKY, but the Switch does something really well, and that is social gaming. It’s not perfect, but bear in mind, this is not just a handheld, but a handheld permanently with TWO controllers ever ready. Add another person with a switch and you have four player gaming, on the fly.

This is not a hardcore games machine (though it is getting some good titles like Doom, Wolfenstein etc), but the social element makes this one of the most fun consoles at any gathering.

      Online subscription will be $20~25...

Also, switch could be more powerfull if it was a full fledged console, but it's a handheld no matter what Nintendo says.

Handheld = mobile hardware, there is nothing wrong with that Nvidia chip considering Nvidia themself confirmed they won't release the Pascal based one for a while.

It's simple, Switch is a great powerfull handheld but a mediocre weak home console, also a reason why still PC is the only true powerhouse if you really want the best graphics out there, switch is more for people who want a good handheld and Nintendo exclusov

This is what happens when a developer gets into a debate with a fanboy on the internet who doesn't quite comprehend the facts presented.

When Nintendo was designing the Switch they had the option of using old mid-range parts, or newer mid-range/high-end parts. They settled for the former. They focused on adding gimmicks, and making profit from hardware sales unlike Sony. They're essentially betting the average buyer isn't as smart in 2016, and that the "nostalgia factor" would compensate their missteps. No, it doesn't.

        What Nintendo served us is:
        - March 2017, limited release
        - Launch: Zelda, Skylanders, Apps
        - Underclocked Tegra X1 (22nm straight-wafer)
        - 1.1 GHz ARM Cortex A57, 700MHz Maxwell cores
        - 32GB eMMC 5.1 internal storage (upto 128GB microSD expand)
        - 3h (intense) / 6h (casual) gaming battery life
        - 50'C warm temperatures
        - Handheld Performance (~0.4 TFlops) 720p, 25fps, Low-Setting, WiiU is slightly faster
        - Docked Performance (~0.7 TFlops) 900p, 35fps, Low-setting, WiiU is slightly slower
        - Some 3rd party involvement, like the GameCube (example Fifa 07)
        - gimmicks galore, weird ergonomics, subpar hardware and a confusing/misleading product
        - Paid online subscription, US$59 yearly
(this steep paywall ensures their online services will be lacking and unprofitable for years)
        - US$59 games (console prices)
        - US$299 launch price = Targets only kids with rich parents
        - Years later probable discounted price = US$199 = Kids who have moved onto iOS/Android by now

What I hoped Nintendo would give us:
        - November 2016, stocked release
        - Launch: Zelda, Mario Kart 8, Fifa 17, Splatoon 2
        - Balanced Tegra X2 (14nm FinFet lithography)
        - 2.0 GHz ARM Cortex A72, 900MHz Pascal cores
        - 64GB USF 2.0 internal storage (upto 512GB microSD expand)
        - 4h (intense) / 10h (casual) gaming battery life
        - 45'C warm temperatures
        - Handheld Performance (~0.6 TFlops) 720p, 30fps, Medium-Setting, WiiU is slightly slower
        - Docked Performance (~1.4 TFlops) 1080p, 30fps, Medium-setting, XB1 is slightly slower
        - Lots of 3rd party involvement, like the Xbox (example Half Life 2)
        - No gimmicks, just great hardware and a clear product
        - Free online for 12 months, US$39 yearly thereafter
(online subscription has No Value unless you have games, features, and hooked users)
        - US$39 games (halfway between mobile and console prices)
        - US$399 launch price = Target adults that have money
        - Years later probable discounted price = US$219 = Target kids appeal soon after phasing out the 3DS from the market

TL;DR.... the Nintendo Switch could have been slightly more powerful than the base Xbox One, so it would have a flurry of launch titles and a racking up current-gen ports, thus offering more value for money and a better product lifecycle. Essentially turning the console market into a 3-horse race for the masses. Instead, we got a cash-grab from Nintendo who cheaped out on the internals and ergonomics, to focus on gimmicks instead. This is now causing a much slower pace of game ports and will negatively affect the product's lifecycle. So its still a 2-horse race in the market, with Nintendo picking up secondary users. Sure, it might mean the console is now $50-$100 cheaper... but essentially its less value for money. Sometimes a quality experience warrants the extra expense!

But if you look it this way, Xbox One failed too with 30mln sales vs 67,5mln sold PS4's...

Anonymous, 31 Oct 2017LOL.. Clearly you never played nintendo before.. The Switch... moreOh please no need, your Nintendo was at the bottom of gaming since the end of Wii times. They really got lucky with Switch, people wants some portable powerhouse, but as home console, does not have a chance against Xbox one x and ps4 pro, all best games and power are only on those too, switch will never even have a chance to compete, it is portable console, nothing else

It's very hard to match the price of the Xbox One S, let alone the PS4 Slim, in the international market as these have had quite a few price cuts.

I think the Nintendo Switch is still a "good" device but it has some flaws:
                - needed to be more efficient and faster (third-party ports are looking less promising)
                - released too late (instead of March 2017, they should've matched November 2016)
                - too gimmicky (with the split gaming, and awkward right stick location)
                - needed to have more games (its very barebones)
                - price is a tad high (I would settle on a $50 drop to be more fair)

                I mostly disagree

Dude.. The nintendo switch is one of the most successful product launch ever!! Read the NEWS! Don't just assume..

-needed to be more efficient and faster? FUN gaming =/= graphic eye candy
-released too late(yep it's late but just because we can't wait to get our hands on it)
-split screen too gimmicky? Seriously? I advise you to go out of your cave and find a friend.. Because playing with friends is a whole lot more meaningful than playing alone.
-needed to have more games? LOL it has all the games it need.. And you'll see these titles last even after the end of the life cycle of this console.. Other consoles are dying to have these nintendo exclusive titles..

The Switch marries traditional couch based gaming with portability of on the go gaming and it delivers a genius solution to local multiplayer gaming through the joycons.. Switch literally had 2 goty released in short time (Zelda and Mario Odyssey) and metroid is coming. The last two issues can and will be solved, however, the first three were a one-time opportunity which Nintendo missed on purpose (cash grab). Overall, the Nintendo Switch is not successful... but it will become successful soon. However, one can't deny the big missed opportunity that we've experienced due to too much meddling by old Japanese men on the Board of Committee not focusing on the long-term success.

Not very competitively priced sadly. I mean this costs € 100 more than a PS 4 Slim or Xbox One S. And as it is the successor for both the Wii U and the New 3DS (see Pokémon), this is no real alternative for DS fans price-wise yet. Still hoping to see it below € 200 in the following months
