Android 8.1 lets you restore data after initial phone setup

30 October 2017
The new feature will let you restore data from your Google account even after you skipped the option to.

That's a great addition. Hopefully this feature will get through other companies, Oreo 8.1 can't come soon enough to other brands

    - With locked bootloader
    - With unlocked bootloader
With unlocked bootloader, If you install a recovery and flash an os version "made" by someone on XDA, then yes, you might get it to be unstable. Specially if that dev is a noob.
If you root the phone with locked bootloader, you won't be able to flash recovery and custom roms, but you will get the latest updates and you won't haveany stability issues on the stock rom.
I've rooted mine the same way and debloated to the bone the os on my Sony. Just be careful what you delete. That's all.
And if you screw things up, you just turn it off and connect it to the PC. I don't know what brand you use, Sony offers PC companion which repairs the phone if the software is damaged.
    Hope this helped you.

I tried an iPhone 7 for a few weeks and returned to Android, so not rooting is not like using an Apple phone.

LG superfan, 31 Oct 2017What LG has that how do you backupIt's called LG Backup or LG Bridge on the G4, G5, and G6. Not sure if other LG phones have it but those do and it backs up everything just like Apple iCloud does. You can save it in the cloud, on your SD Card, or Internal storage.
It works just like Titanium Backup but without needing to root since it's a default LG app :).

I used to use Titanium Backup on rooted devices and it was the best but I no longer root my devices as there is no need. I don't have the time for it and I want to receive updates and keep it running stable. Root really ruined everything for me in the past so I won't be going back to that.

Having and Android phone and not rooting it is like buying an iPhone.
I don't buy a phone to use it im guest mode. I'm the administrator and I make the rules! :D
And yes, if a phone lacks SD card slot and waterproofing then don't buy it. It's a piece of crap. Fk u foogle and your spying cloud!

Lol, Android 8 doesn't backup and restore your data right now anyway, there is tickets in with Google for it. I can no longer restore any of my backups since Oreo 8 Sept update, and it no longer matters what build I roll back to even 7 which previously successfully restored. shows 220 apps to restore and only restore 10

Yay, finally. A huge feature missing.
They still need to make this better.
LG saves everything, including every single app's data, not just a few apps, but all.
Samsung has that now, not sure if it saves all apps data but a few at least. Both have schedules.
                            Sony also has it.

                            Welcome, google.
