I find it very convenient to have my phone charged in... moreThis would be like using one of those lightning fast 15 minute AA battery charger to compensate for one's forgetfulness 20 minutes before departure. Batteries don't enjoy being charged that fast (both NiMH and Li-Po). In this example, charging Eneloops with this current shortens their lifespan 10 times.
Li-Ion cells are a bit less sensitive, but those shouldn't be charged above 0.5C and discharged 0.7C. That means a 2-hour charge to 80% is already pushing it.
In later stages of cycle life, internal resistance start to build up and the cells will get much hotter during fast charging, which damages them even more.
No I'm not a fan of this solution. Set an alarm so you won't forget or get a powerbank. Stressing battery (which is in most phones non-removable) beyond safe limits isn't the right way to do this.

If possible a way to choose the speed manually would be great. "I'm in a hurry, charge as fast as possible" or "this is the usual over night charge, do it in the way that conserves the battery life as much as possible".

...NOT okay!
Maybe Google wants you to buy Pixelbook charger to get actual 'fast' charging. Kinda taking a leaf out of Apple's book :disgusting:

This is why I'm happy using my Huawei Mate 10 Pro. 58% in 30 mins and fully charged in 55 mins. And that's with a 4000mAh battery.
Plus the added benefit of a TUV safety certification to ensure nothing untoward happens.

Correct, but not to 'reduce stress on the battery'. The last part of the charging occurs in CV (constant voltage) mode, where the current is dictated by the cell's internal resistance. In other words, it cannot be charged any faster without compromising the safety of the cell.

Well in my opinion it doesn't matter much .... Coz few youtubers tested it until it charges fully and compared it with other flagships and it got 2nd place with its hugely higher resolution than one plus 5 which got 1st place and the difference is 3 minutes.... That's great...

They write that the max thermals in 32.6 ºC which is reasonable if that is the body temperature. Pixel 1 temperatures reached a peak of 44 ºC...

Another mistake was buying it refurbished, where the silicon had heated for an unknown time. The memory chip managed to get fried, so I smashed it. Perhaps it was the custom ROM that set it off. It doesn't matter because newer budget phones are just as powerful and don't even reach 50c.
