Anonymous, 06 Nov 2017I don't see how he's wrong.you only have to look at sales and profit gains over the past quarter, and with the ridiculous cost of the iphone X their bank balances will continue to skyrocket, people who buy apple products will buy regardless of whats under the hood and the price tag, so yeah i think he is wrong that apple will struggle in 2018, the figures dont lie

a simple "software update" would fix this... plus their are "third party" camera apps that already do this..

Another issue could be that the tele camera's autofocus could be worse in low light.

It's like finding a point of getting a $1000 iOS flagship of this year that does almost half of what a $900 Android flagship 3 years ago can.

Kd10, 06 Nov 2017That’s been the accepted methodology in photography since i... moreYou don't know that a wide angle lens exaggerates the size difference between near and far objects and a telephoto lens compresses the perspective? You only get the same perspective if you crop the wide angle shot to the same field as the telephoto shot, which results in resolution loss. Please do not correct people's comment when you have the wrong concepts.

Probably Apple disables the tele camera in low light as it won't capture as much light(will be noisier) as a 2x crop from the main camera. A 2x crop of the main camera has a full frame equivalent aperture of f/25
The tele camera has a full frame equivalent aperture of f/20.6. So actually the tele camera captures more light when the shutter speed is the same. But the tele camera needs a faster shutter speed due to the larger focal length. So f/20.6 and half the exposure time captures less light than f/25. Though this only means that the image will be noisier, it doesn't mean that the second camera captures less detail than the first camera. Apparently Apple prefers less details + less noise instead of more details + more noise
