i always wondered one thing... Why can't a phone run Symbian, wp7 and android? maybe not at the same time, but let's face it, galaxy SII or lumia 900 have similar specs.. why not make 2 versions of the N8 for example with Symbian and Android, I'm sure the hardware can support both systems

Stephan Elop will have to compensate the Fins with a huge amount of money, because he ruined Nokia. I had a N81(still have though battery life now is less than 1 song) it's scratched, missing 1 speaker, has no GPS, doesn't have a 5mp+ camera, but it sure was a whole lot of fun for 2.5 years while it was my main phone.

I have owned my Nokia E72 for a year now. And, for a year, I have had one problem after another.
First the SKYPE over WiFi connection isn't very good. My SKYPE over WiFi connection on my MAC - choose any product : iPad, iPhone, Macbook Pro - is perfect. When I called Nokia tech support, I was referred to the WiFi router manufacturer - and this was after 20 minutes of explaining my problem and being placed on hold so that the tech support person could "look into this".
My latest problem is email. I can't access my email any longer. I was told, after 1 hour with tech support, to do a soft reboot. And that just clinched the problem - down shut! So, I was told, after 2 hours with tech support, to update my firmware - I'm on a MAC, and had to find a PC - which I did.
Now I am told that since I had previously set up emails - just could not access them - that the email address would have to be deleted from the NOKIA site (by the tech support person), and then I would have to download the messaging client from : www.nokia.mobi/messaging/email/dl.
I went to the www.nokia.mobi/messaging/email/dl site ..... and there is nothing there.
Conclusion : I can't use the phone for WiFi calls, I can't access my email, I spend hours on the phone with tech support - and get absolutely nowhere -. So, what is the point of this phone?

this is obvious, you all people saying that nokia can survive making just hardware? Soon there will be plenty chines companies with cheap hardware. Even Samsung is better quality. Remember this nokia without software is nothing and this is what will happen. This is what is Elop doing. If nokia pull out meego they will loose everything.

Samsung should hire Accenture to make software for their dumb phones. Bada is dead anyway but Symbian 4 can be resurrected.

Symbian s60 should be used for "dumbphones" now for the time being. Its low system spec requirements combined with its high functionality, (but poor user interface) will make it a very attractive OS for people who are trying to save a buck on a phone. A $100 off-contract GSM phone that can natively tether, have push email, keyboard and bluetooth printer support, yadda yadda yadda will make for a very tempting device for people who are trying to save a buck. Accenture should target Symbian development towards lower end devices with minimal tweaks that streamline the interface for budget devices.

GSMArena, this is old news and was announced by Nokia around the same time that they announced the WP7 move. This doesn't mean that Symbian is dead, simply as Elop and Nokia have always said, is going to become secondary to WP7. Of course Nokia is changing the order of things, but please stick with the facts and the facts are that the Nokia people that were transferred to Accenture are still developing Symbian products. A legitimate question is for how long, but I don't see how it's so hard to believe that Nokia will make devices for WP7, Symbian and Meego for the foreseeable future.

Nokia just doesn't have the software expertise or coodination of Apple, Google or MS and this has been shown again and again with their bungled handling of the Symbian system.
If they want to pursue MeeGo, that's their perogative. But IMHO even if it's at a lower profit margin their best chance to SURVIVE in any meaningful way is to do what they've done: ditch the OS that leaves a bad taste in people's mouths and concentrate on a strong direction: WP7 and S40.

Nokia did not want to become just another handset supplier for Android, so it did just that for Windows Phone. At least Google did not force other manufacturers to drop all of their projects in favor of their own...

As mentioned in one of the comments below, should Nokia become a hardware only company one can expect its profit margins to rapidly drop. The original whole rationale for Nokia moving into mobile services such as navigation was to move away from just being regarded as a mobile manufacturer.

NokiaFanBoy, 23 Jun 2011IMHO I think this might actually be good news depending on ... morethat's the main reason of outsourcing, "u concertrate on what u know best and let the experts handle what you don't"
