Measuring the bezels of the iPhone X - can Apple win the bezel-less war?

07 November 2017
Androids have been preaching "bezels = bad" for years now, did Apple finally catch up?

I'm pretty much certain this article is inaccurate and measurements are wrong, that's because measurements were taken from the photo, which is very inaccurate. Bezels can look different thickness depending on camera point of view, for example top and bottom bezels will look thinner because they're further from the camera.

And iPhone XS that came out a year later is still this fat.

But luckily they have GSM to fatten up the competition too. I mean they count almost 4mm on the Mi MIX 2 when the phone's side bezels are less than 2mm. Good job measuring there lol. I guess they were measuring the rounded sides of the phone too which obviously don't count towards the screen's bezel widths.

iPhone X different thickness bezels are made so because of optics, here's an article about this: https://learn.scannerlicker.net/2014/10/25/the-art-of-eyeballing-iv-the-stroke-optics/

TLDR: Horizontal lines appear thicker than vertical even though technically they are the same thickness, so you have to optically correct it, that means making horizontal lines slightly thinner than vertical.

They probably don't wanna make bezel too thin because the screen would have to be curved, Apple wants to keep the display not distorted and totally flat.

S8 is as big/tall as a phablet, it does not fit in many clothes of mine. S8 completely destroyed pocketability (140mm or close should be the max length, from that point onwards exponentially less clothing would fit your phone).

Also 150 is not that tall, just compare it to like moto x4, redmi 4, xperia x, pixel 2, huawei p10, all this is well in 142-145, considering s8 is only 148.9 something, but rather tall(that's for sure) but when it come to bezelless phone, it's one of the most smallest of the bunch, since other is like 6" with exceptions of ipX

S4 (last 5 incher from samsung) had 136mm height and could fit to most of my clothes.

S8 is as tall as a note (~150mm). Only pants with deep pockets can fit it. It is the biggest Samsung phone produced by far. Like I said they only make phablets these days, which is why I transitioned away from them...

Fusion, 07 Nov 2017Hi Laci..You're obsessed with Apple like the rest of the An... moreYesterday I was playing a little bit with the i10 at an official Apple shop, and I didn't believe my eyes: the phone was half of the time laggy like hell! I tried to slide pictures, and a bigger informational panel, that was packed with dozens of things, and sometimes it was lagging continously while sliding down that long pagea (or just the pics). Didn't try the web, or anything else, but that performance hit me like a stone.

Maybe it needed a software update or whatever, but it was painful.
The horns are ugly, but I suppose, one can get used to it fairly quickly. Bezels are thick, but one can't expect a company to excel on a field where it was always the last. The placing (bulging) of the dual camera on the back is terrible, but then again: you have to get used to it.
The opening process of the phone with Face ID is lengthy (complicated) and thus UNUSABLE.

Though, at long last they've managed to copy the most important things from their competitors after so many years! So if Apple cut the price of their gadets in half, one could take into consideration buying them, then they would have a good price/perfomance ratio. But of course I couldn't use a phone, on which there's virtually no quick and simple option for locking and unlocking it.
Also the 74 hrs endurance rating is bothersome, I like phones that are rated above 90 hrs much more, and with always-on fingerprint scanners.
Still can't understand how on Earth can it happen, that the most important back button sits at the most unreachable upper left corner in ios :D???

I hoped, that I could persuade you to sell your phone with my passionate words, but I'm sure, you know exactly what you have on your hands, so good luck with the phone!

Why should they mention the Essential Phone? Has that phone sold more than a few hundred pieces yet? They don't even list the brand under the All Brands link.

I believe US ones are made in Mexico... that is your problem, but here in EU it is made in Germany. Secondly, you mixing-up 2 things, regardless where BMW is made, be that in Germany or Turkey it is made in BMW factory which adheres to BMW standards and design, not in Fiat or Peugeot factory. For this reason design of the screen credits goes solely to Samsung... crapple have no "know-how" to be able to design OLED screen they just barely orders screens from Samsung, Samsung designs screens based on requirements and manufactures it. Furthermore, Samsung OLED screens are not cheap... it actually costs fortune for crapple. This is the reason why they have to sell iPhone X for $1000... because screen in iPhone 8 costs maybe 40$, whereas one in X made by Samsung costs maybe $200. I would agree that rest of the phone is made on cheap by chinese, but not the screens.. and I guess not the camera which is from Sony.
