Canalys: iPhone 8 Plus is first Plus model to outsell the smaller iPhone

Don't bring race into it.
The iPhone 8 is an evolutionary improvement over the 7. The 8 comes with the very impressive A11 Bionic chip and improvements to the camera as well as the glass design, so it is a bigger change over the iPhone 7 than people think and say. The price cut to the 7 over 8 is why it might attract some over to the iPhone 7. Others will probably be waiting for the iPhone X.
You have to go with the times and give what the people want and screen size is one of them. Larger screens are what the people want and Apple are providing. The phones are more manageable with one hand because of a few factors, reduced bezels on all sides and the aspect ratio being taller so the phones are less wider.

      The original iPhone 6 outsold the 6 Plus by a large fraction.
      However, the iPhone 6S-Plus AND the iPhone 7-Plus were much closer to parity.
      So while this means the iPhone 6S and iPhone 7 units did sell more units than their Plus siblings, it actually meant that Apple made more revenue and profit from the Plus models.

      This means Apple's main iPhone is the 5.5 inch unit.
      And it flies in the face of Steve Jobs and his rant that the "huge" 4.3 inch Android devices were cumbersome, not crafted for one-handed use, and would ultimately fail. Seems like he was wrong, and the company is doing better for going against his mantra.

        Not surprised:
        1. The iPhone 8 has even more mediocre battery life than the 7 due to its smaller battery, no amount of optimization will beat a bigger batter. Hence, the 8+ sells because it has a bigger battery.
        2. The regular sized 8 has very few improvements over the 7.
        3. The 7 sells more than the 8 because the latter is just a minor improvement over the 8, people aren't willing to spend a lot more for just minor improvements. They'll either go save money with the 7 or spend all-out on the 8.

        The iPhone 8 series is like the child that nobody wants.

                People want that dual cam, i wanted it since iPhone 7 plus but didn't want big phone, tomorrow i get iPhone X with dual cam in compact size, win! In my opinion this is one of the biggest reason why X is so popular.

                  I would not be surprised if next year the iphones come in different screen sizes like 5 " ( regular) , 5.7" ( the Plus) and same 5.8" if thet make a successor of the X.

                      Those Asian companies are doing really well.

                        These Asian people want to look smooth with clean and glazing skin, and that's the reason why they buy these Oppo phones. Actually these phones make you look like a person who you aren't by applying stupid filters and all, what's the point of watching a different person and getting satisfied!

                          No sh*t, Apple already told us that during their earning reports. Those guys are either always wrong with their numbers, or they report them late after the companies already tell us so. Good gig if you can get it.

                            Honestly baffled why anyone would buy either of the phones with the minor improvements compared to the iPhone 7's. Significantly cheaper too, iPhone 7's or iPhone X if you want to waste that kind of money.
