Pixel 2 XL screen produces a bright flash when locking or unlocking the phone

09 November 2017
This could be related to the Ambient display feature. Google has offered no fix yet.

I've always had that on my Galaxy s3. It was common with Samsung back in 2013. Guess that "pixel screen is a few generations behind" talk is kind of true...

Nokia on their first flagship phone in years and they knocked it out of the park. Both Htc and Google are way bigger and more experienced and they have quality control issues.

Okay it's pretty cool and if you're sitting at Starbucks I guess I get it but I'd trade that in a heartbeat for a unibody aluminum design...

Obviously HTC isn't immune to hardware defects and software issues either, just look at One M7/M8 camera purple hue issue in low light, but at the very least they seem to learn from their mistakes.
Obviously HTC has a different problem - whenever they design something good, they feel the urge to completely screw it up by re-engineering it from ground up. Yes U11, I'm looking at your glass back.

Anonymous, 10 Nov 2017This is EXACTLY why I stay away from LG ....Why? Because of google?

Google should just give up. Stick to what you're good at, search, internet services, software... Just stop everything else. This is an embarrassment.

Anonymous, 10 Nov 2017Google will be next Nokianext Nokia? to even hear anyone complain about the nokia 8? Nokia is now, since it has android one of the best brands out there.
Stop talking about things you have no clue. Google first. If you'd say Pixel 2 is becoming the next HTC i would totally agree.

Anonymous, 10 Nov 2017Google will be next NokiaIt won't be, phone making isn't google's primary source of revenue, it's more of a new venture, they suck at it so far but even if they quit making hardware, Google search is hard to beat in near future, not to mention other services such as youtube or gmail.

Just Honest, 10 Nov 2017That's so sad to hear/read. How can we get flawless devices from... moreThe reason could be, many of these issues are not related to advanced features, instead basic ones such as unresponsive screen, mic not working, battery exploding, flashing screens, OLED issues (in iPhone & Pixel XL 2) all these are not related to advanced features. May be the QC is taking things for granted(being nth iteration release) on the fundamental areas and focussing mainly in Busy, Google assistant, Face ID, camera ..whereas mid-range or flagships from other lesser premium brands do not focus on such features deliver high quality mobiles strong in basics. While OnePlus started in the premium direction, we could see more issues in basic features.

How can we get flawless devices from $50 to $600 but problem-packed ones from $700 and above? Did these manufacturers take a step back in the past with awful issues that we thought are no longer an issie anymore?

Tbh, only HTC, Asus, Xiaomi, Huawei, and Sony are the only OEMs that could offer a flawless product at any price. I think this is a great way of telling people to grow up, instead of Samsung's nonsense commercial, which is more of a hatred rivalry than a message.

ZloiYuri, 09 Nov 2017After all these issues is there people who still think LG can do... moreNo v30 issues here..yes LG always can, google should stop pretending to be a phone maker.

I get the feeling that Google and HTC are happy as hell that the standard Pixel 2 has nowhere near as many problems as the Pixel 2 XL. It's said that hindsight is 20/20... so, maybe Google shouldn't have cancelled the "rumored" larger 2017 Pixel 2 offering that HTC was developing (?). Do you guys think it would be as problematic as the Pixel 2 XL? The world may never know ;-) .
