Blowing into mic/charging port area fixes Galaxy Note8 and S8/S8+ mic issues as well

10 November 2017
Google Pixel 2/2 XL users have also been reporting that the device's muted mic issue can be fixed by blowing into the bottom speaker.

stobs, 11 Nov 2017obviously, the issue is either Android or QualcommI seriously doubt it's a software issue. The weirdest thing is that something very similar happened suddenly to my Galaxy S2: the external speaker can now randomly decide to stay completely silent (no sound from any source, not even the Samsung boot jingle) and absolutely nothing can fix it except... blowing into the speaker or the adjacent USB port. And that fixes it every time, reliably - at one point, as a result of a weaker blow, sound returned temporarily only as long as I was blowing! There were absolutely no events to cause this the day it started - no dunking or dropping the phone, nothing. My suspicion is springy contacts to the speaker became oxidised over time, and now are simply no longer conducting until a blow slightly repositions the speaker so it starts working again - until its own vibration causes it to disconnect again over a different patch of oxide. If this is true, it's possible some of mics in these new phones with similar problems simply got exposed to some sort of corrosion they shouldn't have been during assembly so they are now oxidised and fail to connect reliably right out of the box...

That is a serious issue. Worse than green line, color shifting, battery expanding, hissing noise, and fragile build.

        Shame, samsung, shame.

Wonderful, just wonderful. After you pay loads of money on a smartphone (Note 8, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL) you now get broken mics? Then there are others that pay for the iPhones more only to have screen freezing issues. There are loads of brands that at least don't have these problems. :)

Apple did it first! One of my mates regularly has to blow the dust out of his iPhone's usb socket to allow it to charge.

This must be a hidden feature for android phones.

Raphi7, 10 Nov 2017Well , no smartphone is perfect.........and none will ever ... moreyup, no smartphone will be perfect but problems like these are gettig absurd. I've had my oneplus 5 and not a single issue, you hear no complains about this phone, everything just works. And the price difference between a oneplus 5 to the pixel/Note 8 is noticable.
I'm not saying everybody owning a note 8/pixel are encountering this issue and i'm not saying there's no oneplus 5 device that has no problems. At some point, the margin of error is 99.99% s there's a 0.001% chance of a smartphone not even starting up when buying new.

i have a note 8 and i noticed that people were complaining that they were not able to hear me proper so when i checked the charging slot and microphone area on the bottom of the phone i see lint ( fabric lint from my pocket) stuck in the microphone. used the sim eject tool to clean the microphone and no issues now. love how all these apple fanboys take any opportunities to bash on Samsung.

Well, that's not all. My honor 8 is also having the same issue, but blowing into speaker doesn't work for me, I have to disconnect the call and call again., especially when I wanted make the call in skype or IMO.

Samer, 10 Nov 2017Frankly, I think I will keep my phone and wait for next yea... moreWell , no smartphone is perfect.........and none will ever be i think, so if we find an issue in each phoen we would bever have one!
BUT i do admit that lately there has been many strange numerous problems with expensive phones lately, or the market is judging more then before........

                            Hey guys,
Please find bellow how to definitly solve mic issues on every kind of device:
Settings/Google/Search/Voice/"Ok google" Detection and disable Say "Ok Google" any time

This feature of Google Assitant bug microphones drivers somehow. Google must address it now.

Frankly, I think I will keep my phone and wait for next year, I think the phones' industry is going through transitional period that made manufacturers push phones to the market without proper testing or - thorough reviews, this year, different phones with different aspect rations, some have headphone jacks some dont, stupid decisions by companies without deep thinking (like the placement of fingerprint sensors on Samsungs and the rubbish front camera on V30, no water proofing for Mate 10, problematic Pixel), will wait till next year better

are there no issues/bugs with iphone 8/X or gsmarena is not telling us? but i still would not expect a 1000$ device to have issues whether it be iphone/android's.

The answer my friend is blowing in the wind

I do believe the waterproofing aspect is partly responsible for that. When i made videos at the pool after dunking my note8 underwater, the sound got muted during playback. Afterwards when the phone dried up, playback of new videos no longer had muting issues.
