okcnaline, 14 Nov 2017I don't need more content if I'm only focusing on one line.... moreMagazines are dumb, average IQ is racing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flynn_effect
Every generation is smarter than the last, it partly explains why technological and social advancements' pace increase with time.

There's a reason why magazines are dying, it's a making of dumber generations...

Anyway, back on topic. One-handed phones are less than 0.1% of total sales, there's almost no phone smaller than 130mm X 65mm which is the device size that allows for a typical hand to reach all 4 corners.

Similarly during a conversation , especially ones that are happening during the course of days, you have to know what was said. You cannot remember everything exactly, a tall screen halves the scrolling time, while typing, thus it halves one's interaction with the screen. It's literally a time-saver like few others.

I expect all/most high end 16:9 screens to be dead in the water by late 2018 ... like all previous failed aspect ratios it would go extinct.

If you want to keep it, squeeze it hard, you're of a dying breed...

And like I said, by the time you type your message you should know what you're typing. And one-handed operation shouldn't be dead, and isn't. Single-handed operation is more safe than having 2 hands on a phone and head down, and there's a reason why some phone manufacturers still produce compact phones like LG Q6 and Xperia XZ1 Compact.

If you can't even put some effort into knowing what you need to type before you type anything or understand that you only read one line at a time, don't be surprised if magazines call the latest generation dumb.

When you message each other you often want to read the convo as you type. Like I said I don't message a lot, but my wife that does tells me that it's many times better now that she has a tall phone... I guess it's an easier, smoother experience...

One handed use is mostly dead anyway (all devices are phablets at this point).

AnonD-711468, 14 Nov 2017Not I (as I don't do it too much). But it is made for messa... moreI don't watch movies. I basically do all my gaming (consists of only Puzzle and Dragons), group texting, browsing, occasional YouTube, and using Reddit perfectly fine on a 16:9 screen ratio. Who needs extra screen estate when you text or browse; you are only reading so many lines at once. Also, if you're typing on the phone already why do you need extra space? You should already KNOW what you're typing. Not to mention I'd rather have improved one-handed operation over more useless screen estate I'm not going to miss much.

It's not infinitely better if you have a small amount of extra space. If you need that space most likely it's because you're lazy or you're trying to be like every other "cool" kid.

okcnaline, 13 Nov 2017Burn-in is your friend then.No stationary images on phones or TVs = no burn-in (plenty on desktops).

It only happens on exhibition models or very particular use. Owning Amoled phones since Galaxy Wave, never had any serious issue with burn-ins... I do have an issue with fading colours, but even that needs 3+ years to be an issue...

okcnaline, 13 Nov 2017Oh please, what do you use your bezelless 2:1 for? Not I (as I don't do it too much). But it is made for messaging and browsing facebook/instagram.

As it turns out tall screens are infinitely better at those (especially messaging) as you can afford to have a keyboard on and *still* leave quite some space on-screen.

Messaging and browsing is like 80-90% of smartphones' use. So no wonder that phone makers moved en masse to the new aspect ratio.

I have to ask what do *you* do on your 16:9 screen? Do you watch a lot of movies? Because that's about the last thing that is done better there and soon not even that (youtube is increasingly supporting ultra wide content, games transition to the new aspect ratio).
