12 November 2017
16:9 ruled supreme but smartphone makers want to go wider. Do you want to follow them?

I prefer 16:9 ratio, its much better for playing games, watch youtube and surfing. What I hated about 18:9 ratio display is the home button is also on the screen, it also means less viewing experience and the phone!s appearance looks likea remote control for tv.

Cropping or stretching the content to fit the 18:9 screen is not a real solution, because you will have either lost or distorted content.

Missing 4:3 aspect ratio. It was perfect for me.

        @zODIAC@mikegreene@Anonymous@( Ok , all those last 10 commenters )

I have stated that 18:9 is pure cheat & to save manufacturers money , see , when you make screen , the screen manufacturers have limited width & unlimited ( or quite a ) height to manufacture on there machines ( Whether its OLED or LCD , Samsung or LG or BOE display )
I dont understand , wont it be better if you have 16:9 bezel-less full screen with onscreen gesures & fingerprint or faceid at back & front respectively. Why we need only 18:9 full screen , is 16:9 full screen not possible or hard to imagine , then all this 18:9 full screen argument will vanish

I voted for 18:9, but this is reasonable if the phone is without top and bottom bezels and navigation buttons occupy the screen. I can't understand why some manufacturers put bottom bezel and the buttons are on the screen. Google Pixel 2 is an example for such screen area loss.
But it is obvious that the design again goes in a direction I don't like - bigger and bigger phones with ugly dual cameras, finger print sensors to spoil totaly the look of the devices.
May be I just have to leave my hope for something I would use with pleasure.

From the rumors, I thought the S8/S8+ are phones with 16:9 displays but smaller bezels. But no, they did a bit of cheating by making the phone a lot taller. It's unwieldy. I am not happy with the tall/long size and weight of my S8+, it feels having a TV in my pocket.

It is fine to use indoors but taking out the S8+ from a pocket while walking is not smartphone like.

The mini short throw projector can turn any flat surface become a display no need entangled the bezel-less and ratio! Furthermore, it could be resizing the display size 8inch, 10inch, 12inch, 21inch...to maximize 40inch, I guess so..for smaller short throw display size would be saving battery. Mark my words!

You would like to hold a 10,000mAh battery phone, I'm serious. It has better grip and battery life, especially if you're a heavy user, heavy gamer, ...
You know what increases the risk of shattering the phone? The glass body and the curved edges, not the thick battery.

The 1" camera sensor should be standard nowadays in phones. Phones are capable of taking much better photos than what they do today. The technology is already existing. But the manufacturers purposely use small camera sensors in phones in order to make them thin and worse quailty than compact cameras (so to not to reduce the sales of cameras). This is what annoying. The manufacturers purposely don't make phones with cutting-edge technology. And they sacrifice everything useful just for the useless thinness. Zero common sense...

Watching 4:3 and 16:9 movies, videos (or playing games that have these aspect ratio, like PS1 games) on 18:9 screen will create two black bars at the sides. On AMOLED screen this means burn-in: the pixels at the black bars remain unused, while the rest of the pixles of the screen will wear out (uneven usage of the screen). What you will experience is the mark of the two black bars, which is in fact the screen between the two black bars burned in (those pixels were used more).

I know not all the trolls are payed, but some of them are.
Anyway, I think they ask 10 teenagers what they want and would like to use and that's it.
A TRUE brand would make an official poll on their website, offering many choices. And by those results they should build the phone.
The problem is that the technology is advancing so fast they can't keep up and they don't put so much work into every model like they used to. Not to mention it's not in their interest. If a phone is too good, you won't switch to a newer model so fast = less money for them.
Thus, offering us sealed battery phones (2-3 years of life) and maximum 2 years of updates.
So basically you have to switch your phone every 2 years.
Also, bezeless = broken display = more profit for them. Which makes sense viewed from their perspective.
I'm gonna change my approach to highend phones and buy either an older model, either wait. I'm not gonna pay 700-1000 euro on a phone. I can buy a GOOD laptop and make money myself!
If a phone allows me to install and run smoothly ubuntu or fedora on it, them I'll buy it! Till then, NO!
                              Beware of the brainwashing! :))
