Early OnePlus 5T camera review: no zoom, better low-light photos

Worst camera in my entire life. Used several phones from other brands and a $150/- phone had better camera then OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T at that time. Worst is that based on reviews here on GSMArena I recommended these phones to my friends and they blamed me for their worst experience. Since then I have stopped recommending GSMArena reviews as well as OnePlus phones.

I'm afraid you interpreted the source incorrectly. Picture number 3 is not 5 vs 5T, it is 5T both times: left picture is the 16MP sensor with illumination of the test objects at 4 Lux, right picture is the 20MP sensor after reduction of the illumination to 3.5 Lux.

Be Nice To Others, 14 Nov 2017Wow Z Ultra. That's a damn old phone. Leaves me surprised t... moreIt's one of the best phones I have ever used. Still as snappy as it was on day 1. There robustness is unchallenged. This is precisely the reason why Sony has a massive fan following even in android realm.

The photo with the color chart is incorrectly labelled here.. it's actually a comparison of OnePlus 5T photos but in 4 lux vs 3 lux lighting.
In the German site, it says:
"Now only the OnePlus 5T: At about 4 lux, the primary camera remains active (left, 16 MP, f / 1.7, ISO6400, 1 / 17s), at about 3 lux, the 5T then switches to the second camera (right, 20 MP, f / 1.7, ISO4000, 1 / 17s). But all the edges fringe in color."

Better low light can be achieved with a single camera only. Galaxy Note 8, LG V30, Pixel 2 XL, iPhone X, and maybe U 11+ all have amazing low light image performance.
The best use of secondary lens IMO is wide angle like LG's.

Anonymous, 13 Nov 2017Gossips say the imx500 for Xperia Premium 2018 is 1/2" or 1... moreI have already started saving for the 2018 XZ premium just in case that rumor comes true. Also the 2018 xperia flagship is going to be low bezelled so I think its finally time for me to retire my Z ultra.

Ain't a fan of OnePlus, but I like their approach of better low light pictures than zoom.
The latter almost has no good use in reality, and portrait mode can be done even without a secondary camera; Google proved it with their Pixel 2 phones.

I would like this implementation for a dual camera. I don't remember using a zoom. I can easily do a crop of a shot. The zoom lens usually has a smaller aperture, it will struggle in low light.

AnonD-352484, 13 Nov 2017so where excactly do you see the improvement? i cannot spot itIf you zoom in on the darker picture with the squares, you can see that the OP5t is sharper with less noise.

Just read this about Oppo's new phone:
"It will intelligently synthesize 2.0µm pixels to quadruple (4X) the size of the photosensitive area of the sensor, increasing the overall sensitivity to light for all images.”
https://www.androidauthority.com/oppo-r11s-review-814009/
I am not sure what they mean by "size of the photosensitive area of the sensor". If they mean pixel binning, then this means that the second camera sensor has a pixel pitch of 1.0 micrometer, hence 1/2.8" sensor and you will get sample images with an effective resolution of just 5 megapixels in low light.
