Mom's iPhone X unlocked via FaceID by son

15 November 2017
The 10-year old looks like his mom, enough so to bypass Apple's "one in a million" security.

Cringeworthy video and not because of the iPhone flaw.

Tann Hauser, 15 Nov 2017Face unlock.... The most convenient way to call emergency,... moreImplying that a glass-centric phone like iPhone X did survive something like a car crash that can drastically remodel your face as much as the car's front.

        Face unlock....
The most convenient way to call emergency, after an accident which you and your phone luckily survived, but your face did not.

Be Nice To Others, 15 Nov 2017Call me a securist, but they didn't even show that only the... moreFaceID technically supports only one face (though as the case of the brothers shows, it's possible to learn a mix of two faces so that both are recognized).

            FaceID is 1 in a 1000000 while TouchID is 1 in 50000.

It seems that there are more articles of FaceID successfully exploited than TouchID was.

              That's one rich family.

The "Pattern" with hidden pattern is the best method to lock the phone. It is a good balance between quickly unlocking the phone and security.

I'm not understanding the comment that you shouldn't set up Face ID in a dark room. Supposedly the flood illuminator should light your face regardless. There's something else they certainly messed up in the setup process, or the kid won't admit to knowing the code.

AnonD-34062, 15 Nov 2017The same thing happened to 2 brothers in the UK and 2 broth... moreIt may be half-baked, but remember twins are almost identical, thus making it hard to differentiate between them. Though I am still mad at so called "one in million" error rate.

Call me a securist, but they didn't even show that only the mom's face was registered and not the son's too.

The same thing happened to 2 brothers in the UK and 2 brothers in India. Face ID doesn't seem to be fully baked.

Looks like Apple didn't even think of that...

I bet a lot of kids that looks alike as their parents will use their parents' iPhone X to steal credit cards now...

"Apple claims that the chance of a random person unlocking the iPhone X via FaceID is 1 in 1,000,000, compared to 1 in 50,000 for TouchID"
Wow...at the very start when they introduced that and I see some reviews of how the FaceID works, I can already tell that it suck, why? Because u need that one face to unlock, if u scan your face fully without anything covering u and set that as the face to unlock, u cannot unlock it if u wear a mask, it just can't scan the top part of it and try to recognize it from there. So, if your face change after a year, ggwp to your smartphone. And this is why, fingerprint scanners are still the best way to unlock your smartphone. I would even say that the Iris Scanner is better than this!

                                LOL,

2017 is a fail year for apple and Google...
